Is there any way to change the look of only your character model? not the entire race?
Is there any way to change the look of only your character model? not the entire race?
impossible
I will explain again(please use search next time)Your character uses 1 model. The same model as thousands of players and npc's.If you change that 1 model those thousand of people and npc's using that model will change.
however, there IS a way of changing player character only, leaving the NPCs untouched. but it is hard
it is not possible with model editing, but you can do it with memory editing
Find the Baked NPC Texture of the race that you want to use, find its entry in CreatureDisplayInfoExtra (field 20), scroll over and get its ID, enter that into field3 in CreatureDisplayInfo, change the model ID to match the one in Field1 (CreatureModelData)
can somebody please post a little more in-depth guide for this? +rep if i can do it.

Its called bumping
It only happens when you do creature -> character change... not possible with race to race.
its not too hard. if you know how to edit dbc files its just allot of copying and pasting. Just edit the files directly related to characters. copy the original entries and make new ones changing the ids. character races, model data, creature display info, creature displayinfo xtra, character sections, and character hair geosets. i think are the files you need to be editing. you are basically copying the current entries related to the character races and pasting them at the bottom of the documents and giving them new id #'s. the original set will be for players. the second set will be for npc's. i cant go more indepth at the moment because im at work. this gives you the jist of it tho. get ahold of the field definitions for the version of wow you are using. those come in handy. In the displayinfo dbc you need to chage the model numbers to mach the new entries in the model data file. this is for the npc's. leaving the entries related to character players alone. thats the really short version. as i said im at work...sorry i cant be more in depth right now. if you get into it enough you can make other critters into playable characters. I replaced all the female characters (while leaving the npc's in game untouched.) I have in addition to the normal male toons naga, skeleton, crack elf, ogre, goblin, dreanei, blood elf, and broken.
If anyone knows how to add races to the create screen I am very interested in that. I get the currupt files message when i try. I want to add fel orcs and furbolgs. maybe a few others. but i cant do it. im runing clients 1.8 and 12.1. things may be different for other versions. and I dont know how it will react for live.
did this help or did you still need a walk through? its kind of a lengthy process and would take a a while to write one up. so I really dont want to do it unless there is serious interest. I will probably be putting up my own character pack sometime before next month (Time permitting) for those who want it. I have to fix the sounds still. takes me a while because i dont have sound on my laptop thanks to the toshiba curse. it might be easier for you to use my patch and model change them to match your own wants but the dbc files i use are for 1.8.
I am sorry but i haven't visited the forums in a while, i would LOOOOVE a step-by-step for this walkthrough for changing only my own Character Model if you are still interested.
