I'm new, but I'll keep it short...

I've just got some really really basic questions concerning Retexturing...
I don't need guides or howto's, just looking for some info, so I can research solutions on my own....so here goes.

For a texture to be read, picked up by the client, and used to reskin an existing item...does common.mpq have to be edited at all?

(I created a new mpq archive titled 'expansion10.mpq' and loaded my retexture, with the proper treepath, but nothing took effect in-game until I replaced the original .blp in the common.mpq with my edited one)

Let's say I reskin bloodfang, does this mean all the previous bloodfang drops will have my edited texture? Or is it normal to reskin things for use as 'new items' while still keeping the originals untouched?

When a .blp is showing me a texture with the 'enable blend' box checked, is it ok to uncheck the box and just edit the texture? I've noticed some textures seem to have more of a transparency this way IF the box is checked during a save, and seem to be an easy edit-able, bold texture image when not checked....any tip or advice on what to do or not to do?

Hope these were clear, and thank you, if you took a look at them.
    peace.

I'm new, but I'll keep it short...

Common.mpq does not need to be changed. When you make a "patch" file it overwrites that part of the "common.mpq" while the patch is in your data file. The patch file needs to be "patch-#.mpq" (# can equal a number 3-9 or a letter a-z.) Hence why "expansion10.mpq" did not work.
