Login Screen Tutorial -> Custom Image?

    Hello Everyone!

I have searched the forum many times for those login keywords and loading screen etc. in the end it was all about either swapping one wow background for another or just showoffs of modified wow backgrounds.

I would like to know if there is a tutorial or at least if it's possible on how to actually do those changes myself and create them permanently with a patch-x.MPQ so anyone can see the same BG

Also, is it possible at all to put a completely different background? Like a still picture for example?

The point is to my knowledge there are no tutorials on how to modify the background and actually CREATE a patch with the new BG to distribute for example.

Any help on background changing is appreciated.

    Thanks

Use a blp converter to experiment with images and try working it out on there, all you need is the blp converter which isnt hard to find: For Example Just test out how the image fits in etc.

Thanks sgasher for your quick reply.

I am still missing some info. I understand that i can "edit" current blps but how about adding a simple static image in the background? And i know i can make the background black with some software but like I said in my initial post is it possible to create a PATCH file with those changes so that users can simply add that patch to their wow data folder and see the new background image? so in essence i am asking which files (blp or other) are to be edited/added/moved to change the background from what it is now to anything I put in the MPQ file?

Thanks again for the blp conversion info. I will still experiment with that for skin creation etc.

    Not easily.
The background is a model. This model gets referenced in the GlueXML files. If you can change these, you can simply remove the model frame and add texture frames instead. Its pretty easy and had been done by Modcraft back then.
The non-hack-needing option is to create a new model containing only a plane with a texture on it and swapping the original model with that new one.

well that sound more like what I am trying to do i guess.

Any idea on what is this process called so i can search it on google? I mean what type of a model do I create? Swap it with which file?

I am sorry for the questions but I am trying to pin point the correct idea so i can research it. Don't get me wrong, I would love for anyone to post a link to a tutorial or a all-in-one guide but I don't mind searching for myself however in this case I don't really know what I am searching for or at least which terms to use.

    Eagerly awaiting replies

Well, I hate to be a downer dude, but this is one of the things, you probably wont be able to find tutorials about, as it is so advanced, no one has bothered to do it. You see, you need to find the different models you want on your background screen, and then make them into one .M2 file, and then swap the current login screen with that M2 file. But unfortunately, we're not able to edit M2 files yet, so we got a bit of a problem :S

But like Schlumpf said, if you can edit the glueXML files, you can also just add a picture. That is, if you know what to edit in them x)

As Schlumpf said, get a program such as 3DS Studio, Milkshape, etc, and create a model consisting of only a flat plane, then i think you may be able to use glitchy's tools to convert it to M2. (I think). I think thats the only way you can do it unless you wanna learn XML It is pretty easy and understandable I wish you good luck. Sorry i never read your post properly aswell

    There are M2-Converters.
    This has been done.
All documentation needed on M2s can be found here: M2/WotLK - WoW.Dev Wiki
You need to convert your model, then add a camera and maybe lights.
