    Texture Editing in 4.0.3a

Good afternoon guys! You'll have to forgive me if this has been posted else where- I've looked around for a straight forward answer and haven't been able to locate one yet.

I've been model editing for a while now, so I know how everything generally works. The way I would have normally done a texture edit was to do the following:

-Extract Blp file I wanted to edit from the MPQ archive (I have Ladik's MPQ editor to do this)
-Convert the Blp file into a PNG using a little java application I found a long time ago (still seems to work great as far as I can tell). Edit, convert back to Blp.
-Use My Warcraft Studio to create a new MPQ file named patch-x.MPQ using the correct directory structure (ie. character\Tauren\Female\Editedfile.blp and plop that into the Data folder under the WoW directory.

Does this method no longer work, or could I possibly have messed up the internal MPQ directory structure?

I'm trying to do some female worgen edits for me and my friend, but thus far, I've been unsuccessful. Someone had mentioned something about creating a folder in the WoW Data folder with the name of the MPQ (patch-x.MPQ) and putting the MPQ in there. This doesn't make sense to me, and I don't understand how or why this would work. I did however try it, and as i thought, did not work. I then tried putting the loose BLP files into that folder using the correct directory structure (base\Character\Female\Worgen\), and had the same result. After that I finally tried cleaning out the cache files in case they were preventing me from seeing changes, and tried the old method again of simply putting the MPQ file in the Data folder- no go.

According to Ladik's MPQ editor, the files for female worgen should be located at base\Character\Worgen\Female. When I load the MPQs in WoWModel viewer however, it is pulling up the old female worgen model, and I am trying to figure out what in the world is going on. I tried open the expansion3.MPQ file but Ladik's claims it was corrupted- I forced it opened once, and it looked like just a bunch of random files, so I don't think the answer I'm looking for is in there.

If anyone can help me out, and/or point me in the direction of newer/correct tools, I would very much appreciate it. I love my female worgen, but I very much loathe her face- as I know a lot of the female gamer populace does as well. Once I get this working, I will be doing edits for all of the faces and posting them here, so I really want to get this to work so I can be a contributing member of mmowned once more.

Thanks very much, sorry for the wall of text, and have a great day!

Update: I tried the method located here,

But it did not work either.

I'm working on it too, but no success yet. I just noticed that old patches had BLP textures size of 12 085, while worgen has size of 44 863. Probably it's related in some way...

BTW old patches work if you rename it to SoundCache-3.MPQ, but it case of worgen it doesn´t. I tried to make MPQ version 1, version 2, with or without attribute file - no difference.

Ahh ok. Let me know if you find any break through. The MPQ files seem highly disorganized right now : / Also, I tried that method for some older ones (that's what the link in the edited part of my post is) and it did not work either

So far I managed to create a patch with modified textures with NE and worgen, but only NE works, worgen looks untouched. And just found that blizzard MPQs have few different places with worgen textures! So there are also worgens at
    \base\Character\Worgen\Female\ etc
Didn't checked everything yet, might be the case.

Edit: copy of changed texture in \base\Character\Worgen\Female\ inside SoundCache-3.MPQ didn't helped. I have a feeling that problem is related to many pathes that contain original texture.

Yea, see that was what I noticed as well. It's hard to tell where the real texture 'belongs' to ensure worgen edits show up (maybe one location is acting as a backup for the other?). I remember something similar happened with female blood elves at the beginning of BC, but it was quickly organized. I'm going to try making one large patch with all the different locations the worgen faces are supposedly located. Maybe one of them will work. Stuck at the office atm, but going to try this when I get home in a good couple hours.

Thanks for the update! Maybe together we can solve the mystery

Edit: Oh, question for you. When you did the NE one, and you moved the edited MPQ, how did you get it to work? Did you just use the traditional method of dragging and dropping it into the WoW\Data folder? Or did you have to do something different?

No, you need to make a SoundCache-3.MPQ file and put into Data\Cache folder. There is file of that name already, you can replace it, or save your old file somewhere. WoW works even without that file, but it can probably affect updater.
