[Question] DBC Spell swapping, finding the right spell.

Alright, I haven't been here in a while, I've read the rules and hopefully tagged the thread right. (I just put it in the title right? Or do I select DBC edit from the "prefix" menu?)

This is all background info on what I'm trying to do, if you want to "cut to the chase" look at the last paragraph.

I've been following this guide and have found it very helpful so far.

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-...ing-guide.html

Now what I'm trying to do is convert all mage frost spells into blue fire. That means I need a visual ID(field 131) for

    A small blue firebolt

    A medium blue fireball

    Blue Flamestrike

    Blue Fire Blast

Blue Blast wave(to change ice nova into this)

    Blue Fire Shield

    Blue incinerate

    Blue Flame-Shock(Ice lance into this....maybe)

As far as I've seen in Modelviewer, the m2 for these exist.

    As for these...

    Blue Rain of Fire

    Blue "hellfire"

I'm not sure if they even exist, I doubt they do since I can not find the M2.

Now my only problem is, using the method in the guide by looking at the icon, finding all spells associated with the icon then testing those does not end up covering all the blue fire spells.

There are many blue fire spells simply named "fireball" that have a RED fire icon apparently. And as far as I've seen, there is no clear "blue fire shield" npc spell, I've only found the .M2 for it.

Example: I see a flameshock_impact_blue in modelviewer, I can't find any icon that looks like a blue flameshock and AFAIK all the spells that do use blue fire icons do not look like a blue flameshock.

The reason I want to stick to DBC editing is that, if I were to change the red flameshock impact into a blue one through .M2 renaming, I would have to change the precast animations too. If I did this, I'd have to change ALL fire missiles into blue ones or else there would be creatures firing red fireballs with blue precast animations, and that just looks tacky.

What I've been doing so far is going through the ENTIRE spell.dbc, looking at any name that remotely sounds like it could be associated with fire, writing its field 131 value down, then testing it on 11 different ranks of shadow bolt on my lvl 70 lock. This allows me to test 11 spell values every dbc edit.

So far in this "testing" to find all of the possible "blue fire" spells, I've come across many spells that have no casting animation and no graphic at all. I suspect I'd have to test them with something other than shadow-bolt to see (for example, the spell named "blue flame shield" does NOTHING, probaly because I need to switch it with demon skin instead of shadow bolt.) what they do.

I write the value down in a spreadsheet and place next to it a description of what it does.

Here are some examples of what I've come across, placing the spells around different ranks of shadow bolt to test more values each log in.

All these values are in field 131, as a reminder.

13227- No casting animation, precast visual is blue fire, does a blue fire breath cone from the caster and fires a big missle of blue fire(looks like blue fire breath instead of a solid ball of fire) in a mortar arc towards the enemy.

9333- Blue Fire Nova, enemy takes damage, Nova graphic appears on caster

9286- Blue fire graphic on caster, no cast animation, but does damage to the enemy.

    9215- Blue fireball, medium sized.

    9194- Blue Pyroblast.

I'm still trying to find much more. The main problem is that this is VERY TEDIOUS. If there was some way to hide fields in dbc editor that would make it faster.

My primary question to you experienced spell-swappers is, did you go through this same trial and error for your spell-swap compilations? Or is there a way for me to look at the M2 file name, and find the visual dbc value associated with that file directly. So any spell using flameshock_blue_impact_chest.m2 can be easily found in a dbc?

I want to make sure the "blue fire mage" is thoroughly done and that I won't have to go on a "mouse hunt" for dbc values if I want to convert a lot of spells in the future.

Yeah, I probably won't resort to M2 renaming. I'm just trying to find the blue flameshock, but it doesn't look like any spell actually uses that m2. If anyone can find the enUS spellvisual value(field 131 in spell.dbc) of a blue flameshock I'd be much appreciated.) After enough combing and testing spell visuals I think I can make a decent blue-fire mage..
