    can Wow's/a MMO's, terrain/world be accessed?

to use a vague example, is it possible to export like, duskwood's terrain/world into a format for, like autodesk 3ds max?

i mean they have wmo format for cities like orgrimmar or ironforge that you could, but i'm wondering about the world and not models.

    thanks for any assistance =D

I'm not quite sure why you would need to do that in the first place. A map in WoW covers a 64x64 grid of ADT files, which are chunks of the map. Inside of each ADT file, there are a 256 MCNKs, or Map Chunks. These MCNKs have an array of floats that determine the location of vertices in the map. You cannot add or remove vertices in these chunks, only change their values (you also can't, for example, move the X and Y coordinates of one vertex closer to another). Because of that, I would think it impossible to convert the format into a 3ds Max compatible file format. You can, however, use world editing tools to modify these values.

Alternatively, you could always write yourself a program that converts an ADT into a WMO. You'll probably have to do something about "thickness," though. Maps don't have any thickness to them. Then it's a simple matter of putting the WMO into an ADT. You'll probably want to add holes in the ADT where you want the WMO to go, though.

Short Answer: I'd say no, unless you're a very dedicated programmer that knows their stuff. However, you probably wouldn't be asking that question if you knew a lot about ADTs (no offense).

Oh, and let's not mention water. World of Warcraft uses an MH2O chunk for their water. I'm not about to get into how WoW uses the MH2O chunk. Let's just say that it covers height, transparency, if the water is ocean or not ocean, liquid type (like water, magma, slime, etc.), and some other things that I didn't mention.

like 30 minutes after the post i learned some interesting details on it though i didn't know about that mh20 part you mentioned, ah i guess it doesn't matter, i'm no pro at even C++ so i'm incapable of doing anything and it isn't anything vital = P, thanks though =D
