Serious Confusion with DBC edits - WARNING: IMAGE HEAVY

So I'm no beginner to model editing, but I primarily did work with .M2's and .BLP's, such as reskinning and swapping models.
I always found DBC's to be daunting but I thought I'd give 'em a try with my druid shape shift forms.
I found a couple guides and it seemed quite simple- find the display ID of the model I want to change it to, find the display ID of my current model and swap the values in field 1. Pack into a new patch using MWCS and away we go.

But no matter what I do I can't seem to get the patches to works.
I'll show you what I've been doing...

    WTF!??!

Make sure that your patch is in the Data\enUS\ folder (or other localization). The patch should also follow this naming format exactly:
    patch-enUS-9.MPQ
Make sure you change enUS to your localization. The 9 can be changed to any other number or letter, but make sure it comes after the other patches. (So don't name it something like patch-enUS-1.MPQ).

Also make sure that you replaced the correct entry. It's unlikely, but you might have replaced a different tauren bear skin.

Anyways, here's a quick swap I did for you. It replaces all tauren druid bear forms with the model that you wanted. The skin is missing for me, but then again, my files are heavily modded (I have Cataclysm models, maps, items, etc. on 3.3.3a). I'll look into the missing texture, though. Probably a quick fix.

Edit: Found the issue I was having with the textures. Currently in the process of updating the attachment.
Edit 2: Fixed. The attachment contains the swapped models. Keep in mind: This patch swaps all of the tauren bear models.

Edit 3: After looking at what you did, it is very clear to me what you did wrong. You saved the file name wrong! It's in the wrong folder under the wrong name. The normal Data folder is meant for things like maps, textures, sounds, models, and things that are the same between localizations. Your localization folder (e.g. enUS) is where you need to save DBC edits. Also, be sure to follow the same naming convention as the other patches in there. For example, if you name a dbc in there billyBobsGreatAdventures.dbc, it's not going to work.

Set it as patch-enUS-4.MPQ in the Data\enUS\ folder, still nothing.
The .zip seems to be damaged. I appreciate the effort though. Still would like to be able to do this on my own.

    EDIT: Lolled @ billybobsgreatadventure.dbc

I re-downloaded the zip, but I didn't notice any corruption on my end. Everything still works fine. Maybe you could try re-downloading it? Anyways, I'll take a look again and see if you got anything wrong. You named it correctly, so that can't be it. And I saw that you included the DBFilesClient folder in the MPQ, which is a must (so that's good).

The only other thing I can think of is that you changed the wrong tauren bear color. Try a different one (probably silver). I'll look back over your original post again, though, and see if anything else could be amiss.

Edit: I think you tried downloading the old zip I had up. Originally I had posted two, one with a texture error and one with the correct model and texture, but I deleted the old one at what appears to be right around the time you tried to access it. After looking over your whole post a second time, it looks like you did everything correctly. You probably just changed a different bear model, though, so changing your hair color or modifying the others should fix it.

So I found someone who did a 3.3.3 compatible Tauren Druid Bear to Dire Furbolg using a DBC edit, so I figured I'd try that as well.
Much to my chagrin, it did not work either.
Something about my client is not detecting edits to .dbc's.
And yet my tauren is swapped to a drainei, and when I checked that swap out it had both DBC edits and.M2 and .BLP swaps.
Oddly enough when getting WMV to read the model swap patch, the white tauren bear skin does not show up, whereas yellow, silver, etc do.
I don't get it, but I guess I'm dooed to swap the.M2's. Not sure how I'm going to pull of a valkier though, it has way more .skin files and accessory .blp's for the particle effects.

    Frig.
    Thanks for the help though!

    Repped.

EDIT: Got your upload to work, and that, too, does not change the model so I don't know wtf. >>

Holy shit I figured it out!!
The patch file that changed my Tauren to a Drainei contained edits withing the CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc file.
Patch-T.MPQ, my drainei edit, was overwriting my separate edits.
I just extracted the CreatureDisplayInfo.dbc file fro that patch, made the edits to that one and repacked it.
    Mmmm, happy.
Now to make my character smaller than a the orgimmar bank, hahaha.
Thanks so much for the help!

ok first did you try deleting the cache? sometimes it will effect my edits. i dont know if you tried to but i use 2.0 version of wow and i just put all my edits in the data folder. not the enus folder and they work fine. i never had much luck getting them to work when i put them in the enus folder.

i dont know why it didnt work. but i know you could try it a different way and maybe you would have better luck with it. you could find the spell in the spell.dbc and i believe the creature id number is listed in that. just change it to which ever you wanted it to be. i will admit i didnt read every post here. but maybe you have the wrong dbc entry. allot if times there are several entries for the same skin color on that model. if you look in the spell dbc at the spell id it will tell you the exact id you need to change. i dont remember what column it is in the spell dbc but last time i looked it wasnt hard to figure out once you know the spell id to look up. sorry if any of this was already said.

Hm... the only thing I can think of is that maybe one of your other patches is interfering? I know that when I swapped all of my stuff to cataclysm models and what-not that the model was messed up (wouldn't display, and my camera locked up until I changed into something else). If you haven't already, try the patch without any other custom patches. If that works, then you can narrow it down to see what might be causing your problem.
