Is chanking skins of the races something blizzard would actually bann you for?

yes and no, changing game files is against the rules. However most, esp. the .blp files (skins an textures) are client side only, it's not something blizz CAN see to have a problem with. They cant tell you what your skins look like any more than they can...tell you what image your desktop background is![]()
and besides, i honestly dont think blizz has a huge problem with model-editing, it used to be alot more popular than it is nowadays, people jsut started using it to gain unfair advantages in game and blizz had to step in.
So many people do it these days in live? Also if they did find out do you think it would be an automatic perminant bann?Originally Posted by pyriel
They see it like this: if you are the only one that can see the changes and it doesnt give you an advantage over other players then they probably wont do anything. That doesnt stop me from using my netherwing egg-> giant root to gain an advantage over others when farming netherwing rep though :P
okay well i hope i dont get banned im currently doing a blood elf > undead because i hate BE casting animations... wish me luck and ty guys.Originally Posted by Frankyboy

SNEAK SNEAK STAB STAB - Rogue inc.
I know how to play rogue, and i dont have to make a pvp vid to show it.
Ofcause you can get banned for model changing, warden can detect if you have been playing with your gamefilesIts just that warden aint default
n, on the EU servers because of some laws in different countrys.

These guys are being sort of misleading, imo. Model changing is completely client side. As one poster said, it's like your desktop, blizzard can not see it, and won't mess with you about it. The warden does not detect changed game files. As long as your keeping to yourself and no telling people your doing this or that, when to them it looks like you aren't, you will be fine. As far as unfair advantages go, it depends on what you are doing. None the less, you have a very small chance of getting banned or anything of the sort, over model changing.
well, i had a talk with one of my guldies who is former Gm, and he mentioned that warden could detect changes in your "client side" game files. He even said that warden reads your msn logs and stuff like that. Well.. atleast he got 2 computers because of this, one with wow and one with all his communication.

Warden COULD scan your game files at Blizz's request yes... however it normally only checks for ACTIVE and running software on the client's system. The issues of this are 100% about invasion of privacy. Anyone that has worked for Blizz would understand the limitations of Warden, and would have little, if ANYTHING, to fear it... As far as it checking your full chat logs and history... there is absolutely no reason to believe this at all.
If you want to know more about Warden itself, without any Blizz employee breaking the gag order, I do have a source for more infromation, AND software that can define Warden's activity in realtime.

Also worth noting, Blizz is under close scrutiny for even using War5den at all. The lawsuit with the Glider team is still not totally resolved, and with the Warden being in the public eye, it has been REDUCED in overall capability more than anything. Blizz is semi worried about anti-trust hurting bussiness, they will not be over-using Warden for any shady activity anytime in the near future. And any Blizz employee (or ex employee) should be fully aware of all of this.
To the original poster:
I have never heard even one word mentioned about banning anyone editing the model of their own toon. Never. Not one word.
There were 14 bannings I AM aware of for model editing. Every single one of them edited the models of quest items, or tradeskill items, to make them easier to see. I am not 100% positive, however I am 99% sure that at least 12 of them were editing Herbalism models in game to make them more visable from a distance.
As far as I know, you changing that dreadful BE into a much easier to handle Undead for pure aesthetic reasons is no grounds at all for any type of ban. I am CERTAIN that if for whatever reason they did take action it would fall into the temp ban not the permaban category as you are not exploiting, nor seeking any kind of advantage.
For the most part, the review team that actually handles banning offenses are fairly reasonable people.

I run 47 AddOns. My UI has an MP3 player. Unbuffed I am 10k hp/10k mana, 12k armor. I can wear shadow gear and destroy any 3 level 70 shadowpriests. At once. I AM a badass. And anything with C cups or better and pretty eyes will OWN me.
Know your limits. That is life as a Pally in Warcraft.
QFT, great post.Originally Posted by devilish_hunter
and like devilish said, being as editing is client side, the only things that would get you banned on live servers are thing that interfere with other players, or are readily apparent to them. Things like swimming through the air, walking through walls, etc. etc. changing what things look like on your end is about as safe as you can get with editing, lol
“This software is known as the ‘warden client’ - it’s written like shellcode in that it’s position independant. It is downloaded on the fly from Blizzard’s servers, and it runs about every 15 seconds. It is one of the most interesting pieces of spyware to date, because it is designed only to verify compliance with a EULA/TOS. Here is what it does, about every 15 seconds, to about 4.5 million people (500,000 of which are logged on at any given time)”
Hoglund, author of the Governor, says he watched the warden “sniff down the email addresses of people I was communicating with on MSN, the URL of several websites that I had open at the time, and the names of all my running programs, including those that were minimized or in the toolbar”
Also some info on:

He didnt give any infomation that isnt already available in the EULA/TOS and by the public.Originally Posted by devilish_hunter
