    creating paths below the world

well, this is a real noob question, but here goes.
I was wondering, is it possible to create a new zone, that is like 15yards below the world, with rises coming u under nodes, so you can mine/herb from below the ground using a normal bot.
Also if I did this, would the nodes appear to be hanging in the air?
I know this would be a mass of work to do, but im unemployed and interested so would give it a go if its doable.
any feedback ideas pointers in right direction much apreciated.
    cheers
