Different Item Model for Different Race/Class Specific Models

I was wondering if there was a way to make a item look different on someone depending on their race, or if there was a way to change a player's entire model depending on their class. I am working on a big edit right now and a small but important part of it is changing Blood Elf class models/making gladiator gear look different for the alliance than the horde. Thanks for any information, or if you know where i could go a link would be awesome.
