    Race Building via DBC/SQL

After doing a bit of work relating to this, I'm a bit stumped and wonder if anyone else has had this same problem and if they got it fixed. I haven't really seen anyone attempt it, so here goes.

I'm attempting to activate (and eventually create from the ground up) new races for my private server. I'm not talking about race swaps. I'm talking about new DBC entries, cross-linked everywhere appropriate. I'm starting with goblins because they seem to be the easiest and because playing a goblin rogue ought to be amusing. I know full well that until someone gets a hack check suppressor or otherwise going for the GlueXML and FrameXML files that works past 1.1, let alone with Lich King, this will all have to be done manually through SQL. That's okay, this is mainly a proof of concept experiment.

First things first, I went into ChrRaces.dbc and gave the goblins the same Faction template as Gnomes. I made sure their Horde/Alliance affiliation (supposedly the 1s and 7s in field was for Alliance.

Next, I added a pair of entries in CharVariations.dbc for race 9 for either gender. Again, I used the same data as the gnomes had in their other columns to populate the new goblin records.

Now, on server side, I used Navicat to add entries to playercreateinfo and all of its related tables, copying over starting gear/spells/skills/bar from all of the gnome entries and simply modifying the race to match. Again, this seemed to be working out alright.

I loaded up WoW (modeleditfix'ed and Glues edited in order to give the goblin the Ironforge background per gnomes) created a gnome rogue. Switched to Navicat, blanked out his bytes entries to reset his appearance and changed his race to 9. This sort of worked. I had a goblin wearing armor and happily killing things the same as a gnome, would make ability tweaks later was the plan. However, even though he was a gm toon and had the language skills, he couldn't speak, ergo couldn't use gm commands.

So I went back in, edited SkillRaceClassInfo.dbc and added Goblins to the list with Gnomes for skill 313, gnomish language. This made it so the GM toon could access languages in general, but the language bar still didn't show gnomish. Logged out, cleared cache, logged in, made a normal player toon the same way, navicatted in, edited race. No language whatsoever, even though his Gnomish language skill is maxed. Any ideas?

If I can +rep, I will. If I can't, well, at least I can share some of my Taliis conf files I wrote while trying to figure this out. Once I have the language down, I figure the I can go back and start toying with 3dsMax and CharSections and start giving the goblin proper customization.
