How to edit 3d model for CHARACTERS ?

Hi everyone, I'm new to model edit (and wow hacks…)

I'm moviemaker and i'm working actually on a giant project, and for esthetics reasons I need to edit some 3d models (especially TrollFemale model)
but i'm confused when I try to edit the M2 file, characters models are differents, they have all stuff shapes inside the same file, and ingame there's some rules which choose the good combination of shapes to be displayed (I can't submit images because i'm too new here so I hope you will understand what I mean…)

I have a python script for Import and setting the M2 file in my 3d software, so for edit model I have no difficulty for modeling my new Troll

but because the .obj must keep the same number of vertice, how to proceed ? and how to keep the data for hair, cap, etc…

    I saw a gnome with a long nose so i know there's a solution

well, if the only solution is to finally have a non-editable characters but with the shape of my troll edition and all animations it's also perfect

thanks to answer me and if someone has posted this thread before me I'm really sorry
