ears figured out

ive been using schlumpf and grymkvlls guidelines to do a Ud-BE helm with ear fix edit
however i see no results..ive taken the Helmetgeosetvisdata.dbc completely apart and reduced every field to 0 with no result, no change..
ive gone into the Itemdisplay info.dbc and found each helm i wanted to change and reduced the fields 14 and 15 to 245 for (show all)...with no result..
ive done all these edits using dbc files found in Locale, and even attempted to edit the ones from Patch_enUS(however then the game doesnt start)
does anyone know how to do this edit, and could help me see what im doing wrong, or let me know what i need to edit..because nothing is working
and it kinda ruins it for me having a blood elf warr with no ears : /
