    [Help] Hyena.M2 Edit!

I'm working on another creature edit patch. This one will convert all hyenas into feral dogs (hyenas with wolf skins, and no mane), and all dire wolves into regular wolves (with dire wolf skins - no more yellow, pupil-less eyes).

If anyone knows how to edit .m2 files to change the shape of a creature, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to change the shape of the ears on the hyena model to make them less broad and a little more pointy, and perhaps try to close the jaw. Here's some pictures of what I have right now:

    Problems right now include:
    - Screwed up alpha layers that make the tail look conical and the teeth look attached/solid.
    - I'm unsatisfied with the look of the face, and I'm hoping to edit the ears and jaw a bit.
    - I'm also considering changing the eyes for all four skins to black, as seen in the hyena models. It may make the face look less awkward. [DONE]

<-- See the messed up alpha layer around the teeth? It looks like a brown strip right above the bottom row of teeth.

Thanks, JimBobGo, for removing the mane on the Hyena.m2 for me. +rep!

You just have to work with the skins a tab and alpha out the extra crap. Not to hard.

Supply the MPQ file, and I will fix it for you.

As Dr00d said. Your Alpha layers are messed up.

It's much smaller than a dire wolf, actually. Smaller than a wolf too, but big enough that it doesn't look silly when it fights something for you. :P I just find the dire wolves to be sort of gangly when they run. Their legs don't look right. However, I think that the hyena animations are really charming. They sniff around, howl, and look pretty darn cute when they run.

Hyenas, in WoW, really aren't that great in comparison to wolves, because they lack the aoe buff furious howl. Otherwise, they have the same stats, so there's really no benefit to having a wolf versus a hyena. And I just preferred the regular wolf model to the dire wolf one because I thought the size felt more normal in comparison to a humanoid, so I replaced dire wolves with wolves.

    HYENA:
    # Learnable Skills*: Bite, Dash
    # Best Stat: Armor (DPS: +0%, Armor: +5%, HP: +0%)

    WOLF:
    # Learnable Skills*: Bite, Dash, Furious Howl
    # Best Stat: Armor (DPS: +0%, Armor: +5%, HP: +0%)

I also just plain liked the concept of a feral dog pet. It actually came from a comic I found on the WoW site.. :P

    WorldofWarcraft.com -> Contests -> Comic Contest

I think it's the third comic on that page, about how hunters are OP. Haha! I love the little puppy. I think it's supposed to be a hyena..

Anyway, here's the .MPQ, Sylcai. You're wonderful, hon.

Ha, their attack animation is crap. The tail goes up his ass when he bites. XD

Haha, I see your point from looking at WoW Model Viewer. I haven't noticed it in game, though. XD Oh well, that's Blizzard's problem, not mine.

Select the vertices for the mane, scale it down greatly and move it into the body. If there is no hole where they were attached to the bod you're done - if not, just move the vertices around until the hole is patched. (hard)

    Hyena.7z

I edited one for you and stuck it up there, the vertices I "hid" may not be completely hidden (it does odd things when you scale/move certain submeshes around) if they still exist visibly in some form post a screenshot so I can check for it better in 3DS Max. I'm too lazy to run a character to the barrens to do that part <.<

I highly suggest you use JumbobGo's m2, instead of the BLP's I edited, without the mane ^-^

I will not upload it, as JimBobGo's fix is alot less time-consuming, and takes less room.

But I have to say.. Hyena without a mane.. looks a bit silly :-/

Thanks, JimBobGo. Shifting the vertices worked. +rep

I could still use your help if you like, Sylcai.. The alpha layers are messed up for the teeth and tails, so it looks kinda funny. (I really ought to just buy PaintShopPro..)

I'll post pictures in a few.

Edit: As a side note, I tamed Spot (the brown wolf in Theramore - the one that barks when you click him :P). Hahaha.

Here's all the skin files with the eyes edited, in both .PNG and .blp formats. The edited Hyena model file (named "Wolf.m2") is also included:

Since I edited the eyes - probably because I had to use a .blp --> .PNG --> .blp converter - I've started seeing black polygon impurities. :\ They disappear when I get close or zoom in, though, and get worse the further away I am.

The Hyena M2 file is corupt, it's shading turned flaw because of the mane being set lower.

I'll change the BLP files like so, that you no longer need the edited M2 file

Gives you a stronger legal point aswell ^_^
