    [World Building] Boakenfold Hill - And the 1600 ADT's

    Hello MMOwned.


    My girlfriend and I just launched this new continent concept, for our server.

    First we made over 1600 ADT's and replaced some old ADT's (took us 6 hours to write all the ADT Files. Then we drawed some concept maps to give us a hint of how exactly the world would be both mechanicly and virtually excellent. We found out that giving between 2-6 ADT's per zone was just about enough to make it look realistic (I'm talking about zone shifting from grasslands to for example, lava or something - It would look stupid with 1 ADT to each theme, it would be all smashed together)

    Then we made a few city locations for the humans (we start with human areas because.. that's how we felt)

    Then we spent about 40 minutes trying to take textures from different zones and make our own combination. In the following screenshots, some grizzly hills and howling fjord is mixed together. BUT the texture in the screenshots isn't how it's going to look at all, My gf has been working on some technique with shady textures etc so I hope she is able to make it look impressive.

    We also used a new technique for a very decent moulding of landscape. ALL of these 1600 ADT's will be built for flying mounts. So no halfassed mountains with no texture (when we are done)

    We have fenced 400 ADT's to open the server with 15th August and the last 1200 will come over time.

    also new mounts will be added, enabling underwater area's (just like they want to enable in Cataclysm) We won't really run in any specific client, but players will need patch 3.3.3+ours, but chunks and server-side codes are getting worked on, so that we can import cataclysm textures etc to our 3.3.3 server. Because that would be pure awesomeness.

    We are soon rebooting our forums But before we do that you will be able to see screenshots of the old content that we are going to either, release and let ppl enjoy, or just trash it :) (Most likely release it but it was built for phasing so most of the tree's etc in the pictures are NOT appearing on other servers )

    PS: The m2's (trees etc) in the pictures from noggit, as you see they for some reason do not follow in-game.. If you got a suggestion how to fix it please respond to this thread, if not then we will just spawn it server-side :) But would be easier if someone helped us :)

    As stated in the textwall (lol) - The textures you see are NOT the ones you'll see when we are done, way more detailed texturing comming, but atm we are still working on moulding the landscapes

    We will open with some of the best host's on the market (as far as I have researched) who will host from 3 places in the world So I doubt (I really doubt) that we will have trouble with population at any time since the call-service thing on the website said they could host 46000 connections per server for gaming hosting, I'm not sure if that was with wow though But we will see

    Thanks for rep and fine words. We May need some help from people such as suggestions from players PoV (What does players actually want?) so we can get the game mechanic-devs working instead of being four lazy asses so suggestions --> please go to our forums and tell us about your suggestions

    Anyway I will be off, we are moving around in the "office" and building some computer "islands" for our IRL part of the company


    EDIT: I tried to find a way to get our hand-drawed map concept on my pc.. ´but i need to buy a scanner in a couple of days But here is something i made in Paint.. Doesnt look exactly like it should..... But! It gives you an idea of what the first 16 ADT's will look like.

    red dots = horde cities
    blue dots = Alliance cities.

    These 16/100 ADT's will cover mobs from lvl 1-20 the reason it's only 20 lvls is because of 2 factions sharing, so to have enough mobs .

    The adt's between 16-45/100 will cover 20-30 but a far bigger area, with alot of very very exciting content.

    Also everything will be moulded and textured, as we plan on allowing flying mounts

    For a suggestion: try blending your textures more. Solid textures look way to cartoony.
