They can be played on live servers. What you see on your screen (client side) changes, but nobody else sees anything different, as nothing changes server side.

Although Blizzard technically has the legal right to ban for any model edits, really the risk is approximately zero for regular model edits like the spell swaps in this thread. The exceptions are a few model edits for exploitative purposes that they go after, such as that I've heard changing the Warsong gulch flag model (e.g. to make it giant, an exploit) does get specially detected and lead to bans.

I've used a wide variety of simple non-exploitative model edits for years with no problems, though, just to be extra sure, I never mention anything about model edits during in-game conversations.

Autoshot-> Chain Lightning
Aimed shot -> Pyroblast
and Chimera shot -> Chaos Bolt

It is really boring barely being able to see any of your spells in raids besides a tiny line.
These would be all max ranks if you could do that it would be awesome.
