you extract the .mpq from the .rar, rename the .mpq to patch-#.mpq (#= any number from 3-9) and put it in your data folder

i have no idea since i dont use mac but if other edits that require the .exe crashes, this one prolly will aswell

i extracetet part one and if i extract part 2 or 3 it says
there was an error expanding the archive `unnerf`
Some of the files in the archive may not have been expanded yet, and some of the already expanded files may be broken.

the files might not have been fully downloaded or something, nothing left to do but to download it agan ;/

dont know if its the problem, but you can always try winrar for mac.. download @ http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

the idea about splitting files is that there is a piece of the file in every .rar, you only need to extract once.
