General Gold Farming Tips Applicable to All Expansions:
Gathering Professions (Herbalism, Mining, Skinning): Always a reliable source of income, especially at the start of an expansion when demand for new materials is high. Find efficient routes in high-density areas.
Auction House (AH) Flipping/Trading: Requires market knowledge, but buying low and selling high can be extremely lucrative. Use addons like TradeSkillMaster (TSM) to track prices.
Transmog Farming: Many old raids and dungeons drop Bind-on-Equip (BoE) items that sell for high prices due to their unique appearances. This can be very RNG-dependent but has high potential.
Raw Gold Farming: Some instances or mobs drop a lot of raw gold and vendor trash directly.
Old World Material Farming: Materials from older expansions often remain in demand for crafting, transmog, and leveling professions.
Gold Farms Per Expansion:
WoW Classic (Vanilla)
Felcloth Farm (Felwood, Azshara): Satyrs in these areas drop Felcloth, which is used for crafting valuable bags and gear. Good for Rogues due to Pickpocketing.
Tyr's Hand (Eastern Plaguelands): Scarlet Crusade mobs here drop Runecloth and have a chance for the valuable Formula: Enchant Weapon - Crusader.
Elemental Farms (Un'Goro Crater, Arathi Highlands): Farming elementals for Essences (e.g., Essence of Fire, Living Essence) can be profitable.
Blasted Lands Quest Items: Farming specific mob drops (Snickerfang Jowl, Basilisk Brain, etc.) for repeatable quests that give high vendor value items. Skinning is a great complement here.
Dungeon Runs (Stratholme, Blackrock Depths, Maraudon): Soloing these for raw gold, vendor trash, and green/blue BoE items.
The Burning Crusade (TBC)
Primal Farms (Netherstorm, Nagrand, Hellfire Peninsula): Motes of various elements (Water, Air, Fire, Shadow, Mana) are in high demand for crafting Primal equivalents. Elemental Plateau in Nagrand is famous.
Skettis (Terokkar Forest): Farming elite treants for Primal Life (with Herbalism) and Arakkoa for various dusts.
Dungeon Soloing (Shattered Halls, Botanica, Stratholme): Running old or lower-level TBC dungeons for raw gold, vendor trash, and valuable enchanting materials.
Dailies: While not "farming" in the traditional sense, completing daily quests (Ogri'la, Skyguard) adds up.
Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK)
Mining (Titanium, Saronite Ore): These ores are crucial for Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing. Prospecting Saronite can yield valuable gems.
Gathering in Icecrown, Storm Peaks, Zul'Drak: High density of valuable herbs and ores.
Raw Gold Farming (Botanica): Similar to TBC, running specific instances for vendor items and raw gold.
Cooking (Northern Spices): Daily quests for these spices provide a consistent income.
Jewelcrafting Dailies: Provide valuable gems that sell well.
Cataclysm
Volatile Elements Farms (Twilight Highlands, Deepholm): Farming Volatile Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and Life from elementals. These are used in many high-level crafts.
Dungeon Farming (Blackrock Caverns, The Stonecore, Grim Batol): Efficiently clearing these dungeons for raw gold and vendor loot.
Mount Hyjal (Cinderbloom): A good spot for herbalism.
Firelands Trash: Clearing trash mobs before raid bosses can drop valuable BoE items.
Mists of Pandaria (MoP)
Timeless Isle: Packed with rare mobs and chests that drop BoE epics, Timeless Coins (which can be exchanged for items to sell), and vendor loot. Excellent for solo farming.
Gathering Professions (Ghost Iron Ore, Windwool Cloth): High demand for these crafting materials, especially early in the expansion.
Dailies (Golden Lotus, Klaxxi, Shado-Pan): Consistent gold income and reputation for valuable patterns.
Solo Old Raids: Mogu'shan Vaults and other older raids drop a lot of vendorable gear and transmog items.
Inscription (Darkmoon Faire Decks): Can be extremely profitable, especially at the start of an expansion or during Darkmoon Faire weeks. Requires multiple scribes to maximize output.
Warlords of Draenor (WoD)
Garrison Gold: The Garrison system itself was a massive gold maker, especially for players with multiple characters and optimized buildings (e.g., Barn, Trading Post, Dwarven Bunker/War Mill). Raw gold from missions, selling crafted items, and farming resources.
Treasure Hunting: Finding treasures scattered across Draenor yields raw gold and useful items.
Apexis Crystal Farming: Can be converted to other resources or items.
Legion
World Quests: Many world quests reward raw gold, especially "emissary" quests.
Order Hall Missions: Sending followers on missions that reward gold or valuable materials. Optimizing your champions and their equipment is key.
Gathering Professions (Starlight Rose, Felslate, Leystone): Especially Starlight Rose, due to its rarity and high demand for flasks.
BoE Transmog Farming: Certain zones and mobs were identified for their high drop rates of valuable transmog items. Hyperspawn farming could be very effective.
Battle for Azeroth (BfA)
Island Expeditions: While not direct gold, the cosmetic rewards (pets, mounts, transmog) could be sold for substantial sums on the AH.
World Quests & Emissaries: Similar to Legion, a consistent source of raw gold and sometimes valuable materials.
Gathering Professions (Anchor Weed, Zin'anthid, Monelite Ore, Platinum Ore): Anchor Weed was particularly valuable due to its scarcity and demand for high-end flasks.
Call to Arms (Dungeons/Raids): Queuing as a "needed role" often rewarded a satchel containing gold and valuable consumables (e.g., Augment Runes).
Old Raid/Dungeon Transmog Runs: Continuously popular.
Shadowlands
Covenant Sanctum Adventures/Missions: Similar to Order Halls, sending companions on missions for gold and crafting materials.
Korthia/Zereth Mortis Farming (Skinning): High-density mob areas for specific leather and hide types, often used in legendary crafting.
BoE Farming (Mythic Raid Trash): Farming trash in current or previous Mythic raids for high-value BoE items. This is often group content.
Old World Transmog and Rare Drops: Continuously viable for specific high-value items like Teebu's Blazing Longsword.
Battle Pet Farming: Some rare battle pets from Shadowlands (or older content) can be valuable.
Dragonflight
Crafting Orders: A new system introduced in Dragonflight allows players to fulfill crafting requests for a fee. If you have high-level crafting professions and desirable recipes, this can be extremely profitable.
Gathering Professions (Draconium Ore, Serevite Ore, Awakened elements, Herbs): Still a primary source of income, especially the rare Awakened elements.
Dragonflying Races/World Quests: Provide a quick burst of raw gold.
Auction House Investment: Understanding the market for new crafting reagents, consumables, and gear from patches is key.
BoE Farming (Mythic+ and Raid Trash): Similar to previous expansions, high-level content trash can drop valuable BoEs.
