How To Be An Imba Healer - Guide

HOW TO BE AN IMBA HEALER
    by Razgul

As we all know healers are after the Main Tank the most important players while raiding. I would like to share with you my experience of maintaining(:P) a healer that I have gained during my WoW time. The guide or rather tactic I use is mainly directed for PvE. However I play i private server WoWScape I believe the tactic works the same on normal servers

In the beginning lets consider a simple table that shows us how much Health Points are generated from 1 Mana point for different spells:

I didn't consider massive healing spells since their result differs each time. The values of Average Healing were taken from the basic values of healing spells (Healing Touch heals for 2707 - 3197 average = 2952). Also any +healing were not considered since for instance my Lifbloom heals for 1508 not 873. Talent abilities were not included as well.

From the table each class can pick their most efficient healing spell(again excluding massive spells). For me(Druid) it will be Lifebloom. However this is a HoT spell that main effect has after 7 sec and its very hard to predict how much Health gonna have Main Tank after 7 sec (other healers heal as well). If we consider HoT spells they are great for PvP. In druid's case they are instant so I can cast them while running away from the opponents and then from safe distance cast other spells. Massive healing spells are also very usefully in PvP.

However in raids casting HoTs on Main Tank is just a waste of mana. If you have SCT with HoTs on you will just see: 0(412), 0(412), 0(412) or something like that. So what spells should be used? The answer is simple: Greater Heals.

First of all they are very efficient spells - see table. Priest's Greater Heal, Shaman's Healing Wave, Paladin's Holy Light and Druid's Healing Touch are in my opinion best spells to heal while raiding.

Now I will briefly explain how my tactic works. The problem with bosses in instances is not that they hit often, because Main Tank has huge percent of Dodge/Parry, but that if they hit - they hit hard. Today I did Ilidan and just when we started i reset my Healing Meter:

Yeah I know. Some guy healed a little bit before I started too, but it does not matter. You can see in my group 2 other healers Funnyname and Greenhill who as well target Main Tank. Both of them are better equiped than me. Just look at the HP and MANA points(I got Int buff on me they did not, so I got more mana then Shammy atm. Unbuffed i would not). There were also 4 more healers but not in my group.

Now a little bit about the tactic. What I do is basically spamming Healing Touch. Sounds noobish? Well do not do it in the normal way of spamming heals. Healing Touch has 3.5 sec cast time, while some smaller heals has 1.5 sec. However if the Tank is hit for 5k and then you start casting your Greater Heal for sure 3 or 4 lesser heals will be casted by other players and undercut your spell, so when you finally cast the spell it will heal for nothing. What you got to do is cast a spell and 0.5 sec before it finishes interrupt it if no healing is need. You can see me on the previous screen shot that I interrupted a spell and I am in a half time casting of another. If the Main Tank is going to be hit while you have your Greater Heal casting then finish your spell and no mana will be wasted. If there is still a need i cast lesser heal - in my case it will be Regrowth.

In the beginning your healing done will boost like crazy in the comparison of other guys:

On the next screen shot you can still see the Interrupted info and my successful heal, while the priest Funnyname is still casting his Greater Heal:

Some may say that, because of non stop casting you will run out of mana very fast. Well i must say that while healing main tank you just cast 5th or 6th spell you started to casting and even though mana regeneration is much slower when casting those 10 seconds are enough to bring some mana back. Moreover in comparison to other healers in my group we got pretty much the same percentage of mana at all time. I used Inneverate once during that fight and in the end I finished with nearly by 30% of healing done out of 7 guys. Pretty good I would say:

All in all what you do is:

    1. Start casting Greater Heal.
    2. Tank has full life - Interrupt
    3. Start casting Greater Heal.
    4. Tank got hit - your Greater Heal is spelled before other's smaller heals!
    5. Do it over and over and enjoy first place in healing meter.

So just follow my guide guys and you will be invited to every BT/Hyjla/TH raid on your server.

PS: I did not got any loots this time...

Oki I'm sure this works on private servers but, when you get on a real blizzard server nothing of this explained is true or will work, every healing class has specialities and..well as far as im concerned only priests are casting big heals.
    for example:
shamans cast chainheal about 90% of the time (raid healer)
paladins spamm small heals just keeping the tank up before the big heals land (tank healing/group)
and as a druid your job is in most cases to have lifebloom/rejuv rolling on all the tanks

well if the big guy has got some AoE than its obvious that HoT are very handy. i am just spaming Lifebloom all around on those who got hit and then focus back on main tank. The point is that if you want to keep tank alive and not to waste your mana do as I do.

this guide is no use what so ever on blizz servers.. and im pretty sure if you're doing illidan your pretty careless about who's on top of healing meter. I would worry more about the parasite thingies and elementals.

on my guild , we have 2 Holy Priests , 1 resto shammy and 1 resto druid as the main healers. Shammy and Druid usually keep ALL the guild members UP and priests focus on main tank, and the other healers just heal everybody else who says up up up ! =]

Here, to sum up your really bad guide from a private server.

It's called being pre-emtive healing, not re-active. You start casting before the tank(s) get hit, and finish your heal off if needed, if no heal is needed you hit esc, or your stop casting macro and cast something else.

    Here is another tip:

Down rank your spells. I as a Shaman, have 7 Healing Wave's macroed, 3 Lesser Healing Waves, and 3 Chain heals. All to easy keyboard layouts. And totems are on the num pad.

ya this is common sense for any healer that has been past kara.

as a priest if you do not downgrade your heals either your +healing is way to low or you run out of mana way to fast.

Why do people post these types of guides... they are worthless on real servers; if you play on a private server, and think your pro; come to live realms and get pwnt.

I find this "guide" hilarious. Congrats on playing on a private server, I'm sure killing Illidan must have taken a lot effort.

    ...oh wait.
