Hey, really bored today and im in the middle of doing this so I guess ill write a small guide on anyone else wishing to :P Im currently botting as a Gnome Mage, level 17 so far and I have made 20-30 gold. I will be using my character as an example throughout the guide.
First off ill cover the basics -
Horde or Alliance
This depends really, if you wish to bot 24/7 at lower levels with as little interaction as possible, it would say horde is the best option. They have more collection quests at low levels and generally better areas for botting.
PvE or PvP Server
Again, this depends wether you are actually planning to hand level the character at all, or if you wish to sell the account.
PvE is obviously beneficial in botting as you do not need to worry about being raped every 15 mins in a contested area, and people wishing to buy level 70 accounts would probably just use them for BG/end game PvE, so I would say PvE is the wise choice for this. It is also a good idea to choose a server that you know has a very rich economy, with plenty of players and a lot of gold circulating.
Starting out
When starting out on a new server, a bank character is a MUST in my eyes...You should create a bank first and run it to a major city (Or level it up to 5 so you can train some basic professions such as leatherworking for scraps) I would still be wearing full gray/white armor at my level if it werent for my bank character, ill explain how to use it properly later :P
You may want to hand level 1-6, it only takes 30 mins - 1 hour and saves alot of time + fuss setting up the bot to level in that area. When you hit level 6 and move to the second village, its a very good idea to get a profession. If you are starting out, I would say skinning is a MUST if mixed with botting, and another prof of your choice (My gnome is skinning + tailoring as I plan to play the character at a high level so I would like to create some of the 60-70 items for myself)
Picking a spot
Remember, generally the easiest places to bot are those with neutral mobs as you wont get ganked unless your bot screws upWith my gnome I botted 6-9 on the pig farms near goldshire ¬ A small patch with fast respawning mobs which are close together. They also dropped chunks of boar meat which sold for around 1s a stack and can be skinned for leather, which on most servers sells for 1g< per stack. This ensured me 2-3 gold while I was still only level 7/8, plenty of money for training and the best vendor gear, I was also able to afford 4x 8 slot bags.
They are the sorts of things you need to be looking at when choosing an area to bot, not just XP. I have been botting in the Barrens since level 13 purely because of the large open areas, neutral mobs and abundance in skinnable mobs. My character is pretty self sufficient at the minute as I can sellup/mail in Ratchet, then send any better gear back through mail from my bank char. The only thing I need to go back to Eastern Kingdoms for is training
Banking
A banking character is probably the most important part when making money. It saves you running your bot to the auction house and allows you to just pile up the items through mail before selling them, reducing bag slots taken.
I set my main character to send all green items to my banking character (With autoequip enabled), as well as all leather related items and auctionble stuff. The trick is to put your items up for 5-10s less than what everyone else is, this ensures a buy. Another method is to put them up matching the highest price the item is currently at, then eventually the cheaper ones should be bought leaving only yours left. This may take a while longer though :< Also, the easiest thing to do with greens is check for similar items and put them on cheaper, the cheapest greens on AH are normally around 1g for most servers, but new players do often put them up for 10-30s, which you could buyout and resell for a bigger profit.
Just remember its always worth auctioning anything that you think will make a decent profit, its silly vendoring a green for 2s when you can auction it and get 50 times more twocents
Like I said earlier it could be a good idea to quickly level the bank character to 5 so you can train another skill like leatherworking, just for the sake of being able to create light leather for all your scraps.
Cant really be bothered to add any more at the minute, I might laterEnjoy
