Auctioneer is definatly an awesome mod, but sometimes you can't scan and buy stuff because of those pesky things known as school or a job.
Now, if you aren't supposed to have WOW on a school/work computer but would still like to do something very simple like auctioneer then you can try using VNC (Virtual Network computing) or a similar type of program. If you haven't used VNC, what it does is let you control your home computer remotely (it sends your keystrokes to your home computer and returns the monitor image).
I've found that it works especially nicely for Auctioneer, to log in at lunch, scan, bid/buyout all the good auctions, with little competition from other people (who also are doing things in real life). Note that I find the best weekday to use this is Monday, as people start 24 hr auctions throughout Sunday and these will be on short to medium midday on Monday. That means usually no competition.
---To set up VNC---
1. Download a VNC server. The one I use at the moment is Tight VNC and my directions will assume your using it as well - http://www.tightvnc.com/.
2. Install it, Launch TightVNC Server (start menu>tightvnc), set a password (rightclick on V icon in system tray>properties), and forward ports as necissary - standard ports are 5900 for the actual data port and 5800 for the http java one (if you need help, both the Readme and Google are your friends). Also, it might be a good idea to change the ports for additional security.
Also, if you want to use your webbrowser to control your computer (as opposed to a small exe), make sure in the advanced options that "Enable HTTP built-in daemon" is checked.
3. To control your computer remotely either use the small vnc viewer program, or, for a much easier and not requiring any programs method, goto http://ip:5800 (eg http://55.55.55.55:5800) replacing ip with your ip address (java must be enabled).
---Using with Auctioneer---
1. At your home computer get right next to the auctioneer beforehand. Moving your character using VNC is very very difficult - the refresh rate and keyboard timing are very slow usually (there is a manual refresh option you can click on either viewer).
2. Log out at home and then use VNC and log in at school/work. Use auctioneer as desired, refresh rates work plenty well for that.
Here's a pic of it in action:
(WOW is running on a seperate computer and using the java viewer)
Also, the other day I read the cellphone running wow hoax posted here:
http://www.mmowned.com/forums/wow-ge...our-phone.html
It actually IS possible, just not the phone itself running it:
A phone VNC viewer - http://www.freeutils.net/vnc2go/index.jsp
However, playing it by using VNC over a cell phone would suck so very, very, horribly. It would definatly not be worth it in any way.
Hope this helps you.
