    Inflating the AH

Sorry if this is a repost (or common sense), but i thought of it, and it sounded like a nice idea.

You got a nice epic recipe (epic recipes and items, that are rare in the AH are better for this), and you go look up the price of it in thottbot/wowhead/etc. You see that the average price is 600g.
Unfortunately there is one recipe like yours at the AH, that costs 200g, so you just wait that it will pass. But the guy keeps putting the recipe in the AH.
So here is what you do:
    1. Buy the recipe
    2. Use an alt/different bank alt and put the recipe bought for 1000g
    3. Use your main/bank alt and put your recipe for ~500g

Why do you want to do this? Because this way you can assure* that one of the recipes will sell, if a guy really wants that, he will buy the lowest.

i inflate the ah all the time, best done with primals. buy out all the fires or mana (if they're under 20g) and repost em for 25-30g and then grats you've just learn economics and how to be a monopoly 1000g investment usually returns 600g in profits give or take.

Yeah, it's good to have it on 2 accounts because then
people won't wonder why there are 2 on the same account
and then, they won't buy it because they'll probably know
    what you are up to.
    Merry Christmas!

My thought on this is as follows: if the guy keeps putting the recipe up for 200g and no one buys it why would someone buy the same one for 500g later? IDK. I'm not trying to flame you m8, just a bit confused.

I'm not here to flame either, but lars does pose a rather good point, although I do appreciate your contribution as it is a useful economic concept.

    Your day will come.

well, someone eventually will need/want that recipe, and when that time comes you are the one holding both items on the AH. Call it Micro-Monopoly if you want ^^

Does this really work, or do people just quickly undercut you? When do you do it? Please, say more.

This method works really well on certain things. Namely things that are uncommon. The reason why things like Primals can be really risky is:

    1) Say you buy up all the Primal Airs on the AH. You put them up on the AH again at 32g a pop.
    2) A everyday seller comes along and puts up 2 undercutting you the very same day. Then another comes along with 6 and undercuts him. Some random guy shows up with 40.
    3) So 2 things are very important when creating a monopoly. The supply MUST be low, and the demand must be high. Really would work best with something that's difficult to farm for.

So obviously the method WOULD work, but probably better on low pop servers or items in really high demand... such as a rare pet like a Azure Whelpling or better yet, something with no deposit like enchanting mats where there's no possible way it can come back to haunt you as long as the market stays even.

You can get stuck with a lot of items otherwise and lose profit on deposits. Just play it safe and be careful of what you're investing in.
