    Basics to raiding.

Some people think that raiding is all about doing damage, keeping aggro, and healing. But there is a lot more to raiding then just that.

Some basic rules that should always be followed:

-Always maintain good communication with your team. This can go from breaking a dead silence, or you are low on health and need a quick heal.

-NEVER go in front of the maintank before a boss/group pull. This can cause some mis coordination, and confusion on you or your teams part.

-Do not over jump the tank, or main aggro holder threat wise. This is very common knowledge, but some may forget and just mash buttons.

Now that you understand the basics of being in a raid, now is to learn how to play your part right!
(I do not intend to tell you how to play your class, as i have not leveled all of them to 70 and experienced end game content with them)

    The basics of Main Healing

I was always told by my guilds main healers that losing focus is something that can never be done, this means rebuffing a teammate, stopping to heal your target (whether it be a main tank, off tank, or main assist ect.). Do not stop healing, over healing is good, this means that you should not, under any circumstance wait for your target to go below a certain point of health.

    Always come prepared!
make sure to bring potions that give +healing or spirit(and of course mana potions), bring buff food, and always have your PVE gear on, and it is fully repaired.

The basics of Off Healing/raid healing

The job of an off healer is to heal the off tanks of your party. Raid healing can be healing raid members that are not already being covered, such as healing the melee dpsers after a melee-range aoe is set off, or something along the lines of that. Off healing isn't as easy as it seems, you always have to pay attention to everyones health bar, and make sure that if they go below 75% then they are healed immediatly (75% just being a random number, just go by what you think is right).

    Always come prepared!
Make sure that your raid UIs are always pulled out, and are properly functioning, bring +healing/spirit potions(and of course mana potions). And don't forget to completely repair your gear.

    The basics of Main Tanking

Never forget to shout or miss a clap/sunder, it may seem so stupid and silly to think of missing it, but my guild always did what the tank did, such as going in when the mob has 2/3 sunders and 5 on bosses, or a certain amount of threat. Also keep out the ToT window open, so if the mob you are tanking switches targets you can get in a quick intervene, or taunt.

    Always come prepared!
Never forget to keep the ToT out, and i suggest macros for a new set of buffs, or something like that and keeping your moves keybound on fights that require a lot of movement

    The basics of Melee DPS

Fury warriors/rogues/shamans/retadins/druids are IMO the toughest form of DPS to play, you are always on the lookout for the boss moving, close range aoe moves, placement and quick target changes. Always keep threat well below the tank, but not low enough to gimp your dps. You differ from ranged dps (hunters, ele shammys, warlocks, mages, priests, druids) because usually you are just as close to the mob as the tank and have to always be cautious with getting aggro.

    Always come prepared!
For gruul's lair always bring your flasks, and in kara don't forget to ask fellow teammates if they picked up the worgen books, great for melee dps. Dont forget +agi pots and +health pots, just in case. And Warp burgers, those are great. (for rogues thistle tea is still a good source for energy, any +energy helps a lot)

    The basics of Ranged DPS

Always be aware of your mana and threat, because in the case that you go a little above the tank, and get low on mana at the same time, you are in trouble unless you have really aware tanks/healers. What my guilds ranged dpsers did was select the melee dpsers or tanks to get the target, as at a farther range and a lot of mobs in one area it is a bit harder to select certain targets.

    Always come prepared!
Bring +spell damage pots and mana pots. Always keep food/water on you and ask to be put into a s priests group, as the +mana ticks is awsome for you.

    The basics of Hybrid Classes

Playing Hybrid Classes (shaman, druid, paladin) is not easy at all, as you have to have a steady balance of stats if what you usually do in raids/instances, for instance a shaman could be off healing and off dpsing at the same time, just half/half spell damage with healing, and really jack your int as it can help a lot for both, then just throw a heal in there when a teammate is low on health. Or for druids, your gear is everything, you could be full resto specced and have full healing gear on and still be great at surviving on your own and off dpsing. (off tanking non boss/un CCable mobs) Paladins are a different story, they are great at multi mob tanking, and raid healing, but IMO not the best pve dpsers.

    Always come prepared!
Always bring more then one set of gear, as you may me needed to heal dps or in some cases tank, always bring a variety of pots/consumables and dont be shy with buffs.

    good consumables to bring along.
Anything above that takes part in your roll

I will be updating this thread tomorrow, but atm i am getting a little tired, thanks for reading the wall of text and i hope this helps some!

If anything needs to be added, please post here and I will add it =)

    You stuttered.

Also, you're absolutely right, as a healer, don't try and time heals to when the tank is taking damage, you should always be overhealing a tank, in case of random spikes of damage.

And I think what you're thinking of is raid healing, offhealing can be anything from healing an offtank to healing an offhealer.
