    Very good hunter guide

Hey everyone, I just thought I'd share with you a hunter guide made by my irl friend,

    http://artanishunterguide.wordpress.com/

It's great and has lots of info whether your starting out as a hunter or if your an experienced one.

Anyway I suggest giving it a look and giving some feedback!

    Re: Very good hunter guide

Not at all a great guide.

"Pet- I tend not to use my pet, as it can be a pain and not cause great amounts of damage and can cause more damage than it’s worth."

It is a great amount of damage, and it can't really cause any damage unless you're completely clueless and shouldn't play hunter anyhow. It's just stupid not to use the pet. He doesn't even have raid experience past Gruul according to his first page. He thinks you should get 100 hit rating, as if that was enough for raiding.

There's lots of ill-advice in there, even if there are some good advice as well. My opinion, don't trust everything he says, unfortunately, if you do need to read things like that to learn about your hunter, you really don't know what you can rely on, and what you can't.

    Re: Very good hunter guide

I'm going to have to agree with nordh. Anyone can play a hunter, only a few can be skilled as a hunter. (Hence why there are so many "Huntards" on the Live Realms.)

That bit about not having a pet out... that may be the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Ever.

    Re: Very good hunter guide

    Hey this is artanis.

I was looking through my weebsite view stats and stummbled along this site with this post.

First i'd like to say thank you for starting this post, and secondly to the people who have found it useful.

Fornordh and others i'd like to say this.

Starters the website has not had a good update recently and i hope to do that soon. I have almost cleared the eye and ssc, save the end bosses and maybe 1 other. However since my server change i am now back to just starting them.

For my pet i do know that they can cause a fair amount of damage in a raid. They can add 10-20% of your damage onto what you have if used right. This is mentioned in other places of the guide i believe, and i am sure there is a link on how to use your pet on every bos up to BT. However i personally find that it is not a good thing to use for your first attempts. You don't want to worry about your pet when you've got other things to worry about. As you say it is a good tool, but a disaster if used wrongly or if your relying too much on it or concentrating too much upon it.

"that may be the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my entire life"

i hope that you arn't one of these people who use aspect of the viper instead of hawk during a boss fight, because if you are i would seriously take that back. There are far worse things than not using your pet, and most are made without reliasing or without even knowing you are doing something wrong. This is where i aim to help with my guide.

Hit rating- i know how much you need for perfect chance, and have a graph i made telling me exactly how different amounts have different affects. But then who says you need 130 or 142 to raid? I foundafter experimenting with hit ratings that generally over 100 hit rating was all that was really needed in order to reduce your miss chance by a huge amount. I admit currently i have around 22 hit rating. Why? Because i am a raid buffer, i prefer to give my raid group extra attack power than causeing more damage per hit.

Secondly, what is better, having more crit and dps or hit, nerf your damage with hit or not? This has always been a tricky subject, and having the hit has indeed always won. But i have tracked my last few raids and i've found a big discovery. Aimed shot - missed about 40% of the time, multi shot missed 14% of the time, arcane 3% of the time, steady and auto 3% of the time. That makes 60/400 = 3/20 which say is 2/10. That is fairly bad, even the 1/15 excluding the aimed shot. But what i found is that over 50% of the whole misses during around 8 minute fights were from the first 7-13 shots. that makes it 1/30 misses which personaly i find not bad, and a few missees at the start isn't that bad as it lets the tank establish better aggro.

I know there will be many of you out there thinking i am talking absalute rubbish, and for that will say "he doesn't know how to play his class!"

Wrong. This means i am experimenting, testing the math and seeing what i can do to increase my damage and effectivness. This theroy is most likily wrong, but i am going to keep testing it. I do have good gear to increase my hit rating to 150, so i can have mixtures of gear. However fornow as long as i can keep exposed weakness on at all times with over 1000 AGI (which i do) the whole raid then i'm more than happy.

Again i will say i will look over my guide soon to update things i have learnt differently on etc, and add peoples views. Finally i'd just like to say something. If you see a mistake in something someone has said or done, don't tell them they don't know how to play. Because in most cases you are making mistakes just as bad, maybe not as noticable, as they are. Tell them what they did wrong, and how to improve. That way there will be a lot less huntards out there, and you may be able to learn a few things off them too!

    Re: Very good hunter guide

my 2v2 used to be 2212 on a pvp server (fire mage pom pyro ftw!) i walk backwards only some of the time for a trap, getting imp wing clip to hopefully kick in if the trap is resisted and possibly useing FD and readiness to set it all up again. The rest of the time you are right. Kite the target but it can really help getting a wingclip in first, as long as you can get away after!

    Re: Very good hunter guide

As a level 70 hunter with experience in every zone blizzard has been able to concieve thus far, I can honestly say that the guide is full of misinformation for hunters who aspire to be great PvErs and for hunters who aspire to be great PvPrs. I was exremely dissapointed with the information on pets, due to the fact that beast mastery is the most powerful spec for PvE aswell as PvP untill you can attain t5-t6 quality gear, at which point Survival becomes strongest. Walking backwards... please do your class a favor and either strafe or jump-shoot if you are skilled enough. Hunters get turned down in alot of guilds before ever even given 2 seconds worth of attention on an application becuase of people like the writer of this guide not knowing the abilities of his class giving the entire community a bad name. Your 2v2 was never 2212, sorry, that is a lie.

Do you know a fair amount about your class? Sure you do, but please in the future only post good information about hunters, when it comes to posting bullshit and things you aren't sure about... like "don't use a pet.... which translates to: Cut your damage by 15-20% then start shooting" please just don't. Do a few hours worth of theorycrafting, watch some pvp video's, and for christ's sake update your out of date guide.

P.S. Agility only gives 1 atp per point these days.... incase you hadn't noticed.

    Re: Very good hunter guide

i liked the part where he said that marksmanship would do more damage than beastmaster this may be correct - if you have hyjal+bt loot with haste rating
i also had to laugh when he told not to use your pet
    i'm 4/5 t5 hunter with 1874 rating in 2vs2 btw.

    Re: Very good hunter guide

omg seriously people, your taking the pet thing way to far. I'm not saying don't use it, i've made many posts on the site saying to use it, and links for how to. I'm simply saying - if you are not confident with a) the fight to start with, b) using your pet on a new boss, c) the tatics you will have to use with your pet then don't use it till you are. Yes most cases all will happen is your pet will die and thats it, nw. But some of the time (like the aran fight before they fixed the bug where pets could prot flame wreath) it may be fatal to the raid so make sure your clear on everything before you do.

2212, yes i did season 1. My pvp video may show otherwise, these were random people i was with and without VT so i seem pretty sucky, and so does the whole vid. I will be making a new one with my current arena partner ( a irl lock mate), he's not that good but i've helped get the rating from 1100 to 1400 and with a high % of wins considering he's new to pvp and only has pve gear. If i can solo 2 hunters in gladiator armour and get 18 points out of it i think thats fine.

Yes i know what i said about mark. It's kinda true.. if you have really specific stats :P hehe i'll change it, it was before it was really well known on my server, and when nobody had really tried it out.

Lastly don't say pick BM over SV in a raid. having a SV hunter is the best to have if you only got 1. Sure BM hunters do more dps, but SV hunters do a lot more than that while still doing high damage. 1 SV hunter and all the rest BM is the best way to go.
