for those of you who know the easiest way to farm the AQ mounts this will sound familiar to you.

what you'll need

an 85 character either you or a friend
at least 305 mining or 300 with the gatherer enchant
a raid group

in AQ40 there are 8 giant guardians before the boss all of them drop a node of (vanilla) obsidian shards either large or small doesn't matter which.
you mark one from each group they come in groups of 4 with whatever raid symbol you'd like. kill all the rest but leave the boss alone. once you've done that go ahead and run out of the raid with the last two still aggroed on you.

they will all reset at full health without you actually having the reset. the dungeon leaving you the goodies you'll need to get your mining up.

why is this the case?
back in vanilla they didn't want raid groups to solo one at a time and run out so they made them linked together so you'd have to kill each group/ all without exited.

why is this important?
because if you reset it this way you won't ever run into the wall of 5 dungeons per hour so you can quickly run in and out of the dungeon after killing the guardians your allowed to kill.

do this til you've gotten 345 skill along with gatherer but you'll need 350 to smelt the cobalt ore.
