The forgotten quest item - The hilt - 15-20K on most servers

Hello dear members of OwnedCore! I'm a loong time lurker (2009), who now decided to register here for just one thing, help those who have helped me in the past.
This is my first attempt at a guide and I hope it will be clear and easy to understand, and I also wish you the best of luck farming this item.

The forgotten quest item - The hilt

    - What is this item?

Battered hilt is a unique quest item introduced in the ICC patch, it started out as a pretty common drop but Blizzard wasn't late to reduce the drop rate to "Very Low" or "Extremely Low". Turning in this quest will grant you the achivement The Sword in the Skull and a badass looking sword/mace for transmogrification or for vanity uses.

    - Why should I farm it?

Why you might ask, because you're a collector, or an achievement hunter, or a gold greedy goblin. This item is farmed for many reasons, but the main reason is because it will bring you 15-20,000 gold on most high/med populated servers (More/less, it's all about the server and demand).

    - How do I get it?

You get this unique item in the three ICC dungeons, Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection and the Forge of Souls.

    - Where do you recommend me to farm it?

I recommend you to farm the hilt in Pit of Saron as there's much easier trash and there's actually more of it, which will make you yield more gph in the end (Less time running out resetting). Each mob have a small chance to drop the hilt, not just bosses but every trash mob. This will let you run in, clear everything to the first two bosses, run out, reset and repeat.

    - Can I use a bot to farm it?

Yes, you can. If you got Honorbuddy for example you can use the Pit of Saron - Endless farm profile to farm the hilt 24/7 (Google it). There's however some minor bugs (No able to ress yourself) within that profile, more info about that in the thread above.

    - Flipp worthy?

Yes! If you ever see one in your auction house for less than 10,000G (Depending on realm), flip it for a easy 5-10,000G profit!

You sure? Have you personally tried to sell one?

The demand is often unknown until you actually try to sell it. Most people have forgotten about this item, but advertising in trade will often yield me 3-5 whispers.

Also, most people will call you names, joke with you on trade etc when they realizing your selling it for over nine thousand (lololol) gold. Ignore them.

The thing is, you probably want a bot doing the farming for you. During one night I usually end up with 500 liquid gold, 10-20 greens and 10 stacks of cloth depending on character class and gear. This will yield you a steady income at night without risking a ban and also a chance for 20k gold if the hilt drops.

You are always taking a risk of getting banned when you bot =)

Well, it's almost impossible to be banned while your botting in instances. Had no problems leaving my on for 48 hours with 100% afk.

The only difference from say farming herbs/ores is the lessened risk of player reports (although you will be seen exiting/entering the instance constantly). Blizzard check logs; player X farming Y for 48 hours CONSTANTLY.

Gms do not check logs that very often as you may think, they're using a script for that. Anyways, I'm wrong, there's a risk but it's a lot smaller, lets drop it now.

Yes, they use a script. One variable being time online. I'm happy to drop it, just don't say that a method of boting is 100% safe.

Nice thread by the way. +3 rep.
A lot of old items are selling quite well around now. Selling 50 stacks of cobalt ore/80g a stack consistently on my server

How many of the hilts have you farmed/sold before?

Yeah you're right, I admit it, shouldn't have said "without a risk" but rather "with a lower risk".

I have gotten a total of 7 and the highest sold was for 25k and lowest 12,5k. Probably granted me a total of 100k this month.

    Thanks.
