Just some tips from my adventures in playing the AH. Hope it helps!

The guide was decent and I could see it helping a beginner.

I'd like to recommend Tradeskill master since it allows you to easily cancel all your auctions that have been undercut, helps a lot when crafting stuff and has other great functions. The addon is a bit hard to start using but I can recommend this guide TSM Inscription Profit Guide Part 1 - YouTube, I didn't make it.
The video shows how to use the addon to make and post glyphs but it's the same idea for any other items/professions.

Playing the auction house is really easy but it's very time consuming and can be hard to master.
There are simple things one could do to potentially earn easy gold.
If you post rarer items on the AH like pets it can be worth just making a shout in the trade channel, item and price should be in the message.
Tracking when people are selling things low and high, theunderminejournal.com is great for checking when people post and don't post, if a lot of people post at the same day it probably means that the price will be extremely low in the evening or next day, this is where you usually want to buy stuff cheap. Theunderminejournal can also be used to check what prices are like at which days.

But the most important thing to do before starting is to configure your addon so it doesn't post at too low prices nor too high.
