Archaeology : Most efficient way to get the "Professor" title (20 Rares found)
READ:
This is not a level up guide there are a million of those already (big fat yawn). This guide is for those who are aiming for the "Professor" title, this is the most efficient and fastest route to get it. Also, this is my 3rd original guide exclusive to MMowned.com
Assistant Professor = 1 rare found
Associate Professor = 10 rares found
Professor = 20 rares found
OK, the first rule about getting 20 archeology rares is:
NO bitching about: it takes too long, omg my luck sucks, lol get a life, etc.
Yes, its a time sink, just like any other grinding achievements, so leave those kind of immature comments out.
The most efficient way to get rares based on race / location is to know where to find them, here are the list:
Night elves - Mostly kalimdor, some northrend - 7 RARES
Fossils - Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdom - 2 RARES
Dwarves - Mostly Eastern Kingdom, some in Kalimdor - 4 RARES
Trolls - Mostly Eastern Kingdom, some in Kalimdor, some Northrend- 1 RARE
Orcs - Outland - 1 RARE
Draneis - Outland - 2 RARES
Vykrul - Northrend - 1 RARE
Nerubian -Northrend - 2 RARES
Tol'Vir - Kalimdor - 6 RARES
To know what rares can be found by digging what racial artifacts please refer to the following Wowhead link: Archaeology - Skill - World of Warcraft
By knowing how many artifacts a race will produce you can quickly dig their rares and eliminate them as a digging target then move on the next spot (ie. digging your way to 20 rares efficiently)
For example:
If I dig in outland and found 2 Dranei rares and 1 Orc rare, I don't have to dig there anymore forever because thats the only rares available from those races, so I move on to another site.
~Keystones~
Regarding KEYSTONES, I do not recommend using them for common items so you can see what's the next item you're going to dig. The choice is either to use them for rares OR sell them in Auction house
Let's start digging !!!
*I will leave out tricks how to get to your dig sites faster because you can find them in other guides (mage portals, hearthstones, tabards that can teleport you, etc). I will tell you what continent you should dig and figure out your own way to get there.*PS: Please have 310% flying mount for your own convenience.
If you are not 300 skilled I suggest you level up in KALIMDOR until you are 300 or maxxed
The reason is because you will encounter tonnes of night elves sites and as you skill up you probably will find Fossil rares and Night elves rares... if you do its a bonus, if you don't no big deal.
OUTLAND
As soon as you hit 300 (or above)you will want to dig in the OUTLAND untill you found 2 Dranei rares and 1 Orc rare.
Once you got em, say good bye to outland dig sites forever
(RARES OBTAINED: 3)
NORTHREND
Now go to NORTHREND. This is very annoying because there is only ONE VYRKRUL rare and 2 Nerubian rares but you will constantly finding yourself with too many vrykrul camps, oh well suck it up and maybe you will score some night elf rares while you are here. keep going.
Once you get 1 Vrykrul rare and 2 Nerubian rares, get out of Northrend forever, Dont worry about the night elf and troll camps there, if you do get a rare from em, its a bonus.
(RARES OBTAINED: 6)
EASTERN KINGDOM
Dig everything in Eastern KINGDOM... now this includes: Fossils (2 rares), dwarves (4 rares) and Troll (1 almighty Zin'Rokh)
DO not stop digging until you found all 7 rares...if you are bored you can switch to kalimdor but what for? lets get this over with so you don't have to go back.
(RARES OBTAINED: 13)
KALIMDOR
OK the final battle.. if you made it this far... you will not want to quit until you get that Professor title. Most would've given up after getting Associate Professor, time to separate the noobs from the pros haha...
Kalimdor offers you (assuming you get the fossil rares already because they're quite easy): 7 NIGHT ELVES rare artifacts and 6 Tol'Vir rares.. giving you a total of a whopping 26 RARES to dig, assuming you found them all (but maybe you wont be bothered to get them all).
As either Horde or alliance you will want to set your hearth to Org/sw because you will rely on the Hyjal and Uldum portal alot depending on where your nodes are.
(RARES OBTAINABLE: 26)
here's my tip: Divide Kalimdor into 2 sections north and south...let's say most of your nodes are currently SOUTH, take the uldum portal and dig everything that are on the south side... this includes uldum, tanaris, dustwallow marsh, south barrens, feralas, desolace, ungoro, silithus, etc... once you dig everything on the south side, most of your nodes should spawn on the north side.
This is a good time to hearth, take the Hyjal portal and clean out Hyjal, winterspring, felwood, ashenvale, etc. Once you ran out of north nodes, hearth back take uldum portal, rinse repeat.
after a couple of days (or weeks) depending on your luck..
Congratulations, you are a "Professor" now! remember that "the Patient" title you got from LFG dungeon tool? yeah it goes hand in hand with your new title..
Good luck to everyone going for this... I am few rares short at the time I write this (they are all Tol'Vir rares /facepalm)
