Remake - why?
Like a year ago I made a thread called "How to create a good looking UI." And I felt like it was time to make a new, updated version of it. I wanna simplify it - a lot. So sit back, and feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think.
*Remember that you are more than welcome to PM me with questions etc. I'll be glad to help - if I can.
1. Keep it simple.
There's nothing worse than seeing all these UIs that people upload, which don't look good, use a lot of memory and where the screen is overflooded with unnecessary bars etc. So always, try to keep it simple even if you need a lot of bars.
2. Inspiration.
Take a closer look at other peoples UIs for inspiration. I myself often check those "Show us your UI"-threads of forums, they're great inspiration even if the UIs are old.
*Bonus tip: If people are kind enough to upload the UIs on the forums, you can always "steal" some of the AddOns that they use, especially those that can only be setup via .lua-editing, which can be a pain in the ass.
3. Download now - delete later. A timesaver.
That is a bit tricky to understand, but it's better to download too many AddOns at first, and then slowly delete them than constantly having to exit the game to install an AddOn that you forgot.
4. The best place(s) to download your new AddOn(s).
There's a lot of sites out there, and it can easily get confusing. But the sites that I find the most useful, and the easiest to navigate are:
Curse.com
WoWInterface.com
5. Keep everything Align(ed).
That headline might be the worst joke. ever. Jokes aside. Try to keep everything aligned. It looks stupid that you've got 400px from the Player-unitframe to the edge, and 550px from the Target-unitframe to the other edge.
So download this extremely small AddOn - it's a must-have really.
Direct download link (WoWInterface)* When you've installed it, you just write "/align" in the chat, and you're set to go.
*Bonus tip: use as small a UI-scale as your eyes allow your to - it gives you more space. Just hit Escape -> Video -> Advanced -> And there you'll see the UI scale slider.
6. Disclaimer.
I know that all this stuff is common sense to a lot of you, but I mainly made this for people that are tired of their UI and want some advice.
Regards, [mtn].
