I made this guide for the people who really want an own-made signature!
There is NO money used for this. Just a couple of downloads.
So, here goes!
First; you might want to download a program to make these signatures.
Get it Here!!
Once you get on it; click on "Download GIMP 2.6.8 – Installer for Windows XP SP2 or later.")
Then your download will pop-up. Let it do it's work and extract it to your desktop. Then you'll see something like a brownish thingy? Well, open that up. Then you'll see:
http://bestopensourcesoftware.com/wp..._gnome.svg.png
on your desktop.
Clicking that will launch Gimp 2.6.8.
Now, get used to the things you can do with Gimp (there are MANY, way beyond my knowledge.) All you need to know for a basic signature are these symbols in Gimp: The brush (not the pencil), the big black 'A' (for your text). You can use others and mess around with those.
Okay, now that you downloaded the program for making one. You might need some cool brushes and fonts; I got mine here:
Brushes!
Fonts!
Now, get some of them which you like. After that, I will tell you where to save them. OK, so, got them?
Well, here's how and where to save them:
Brushes (hardest part):
* Open up "C:/"
* Click on "ProgramFiles" or "Program Files".
* Look around a bit until you see "Gimp-2.0" or something like it then click that.
* Then a window popped up with "bin, etc, lib, setup and share" on it.
* Click on "Share".
* Click on "Gimp".
* Click on 2.0.
* Then click on brushes.
* Now, go the file of where you saved your brushes which you downloaded, press 'CTRL + A' and then 'CTRL + X' (CTRL + A selects all and CTRL + X cuts them from the file for later usage.)
Fonts (easier):
* Open up "C:/".
* Click "windows".
* Then click "fonts".
* If you downloaded some; some of them will have multiple files in them. Only copy the files with "TT" on them. (attachment: you will see files with 'O' and 'TT' on them - TT only.) Move the files from the folder you downloaded to Windows - Fonts.
* If you moved it to Windows - Fonts. Close your fonts windows properly (click X on right corner.)
EDIT:: If you use Windows Vista you can right-click on the font. It will have an option saying "Install". You can also click that and it will automatically install the font.
Okay; here goes the making of a signature.
Firstly; select 'File' in the top left corner of Gimp, after that, select 'New'.
Then it will ask for 'Size Image'. I suggest you use something around 400 x 175, then click 'OK'. It'll have the perfect size to fit in your signature on forums.
Now. A blank page should of have popped up if done correctly. That page is editable.
If you want a background in another color then do this:
You will see 2 pages on each other on the main screen of Gimp.
One of them will be black.
You can drag that black page to your editable blank page to make the background black. (You can do this with any color.)
Now add a Brush to it:
* Click the brush you see on Gimp main screen.
* Select one.
* Select its color by clicking the crossed pages from before (click the black one).
* Then click on your editable screen. There should now be a brush on it ^-^
Text:
* Click the 'A'.
* Select a font.
* Select its color by clicking the front of the crossed pages.
* Click on your editable file. Enter text and done!!
Saving.
* Click on 'File'
* Click on 'Save As...'
* In the upper middle it should say 'Name'. Enter the name you want it to be.
* Then select 'File Type'.
* Scroll down until you see 'PNG, ...'. That's a valid extension.
* Select that. Save it. Click 'Export', ...
