Reflection's Complete guide to Frozen Halls: The Forge of Souls

Icecrown Citadel feature a massive five-player dungeon sprawling across three wings of the citadel's foundation: The Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection. To gain access to the latter, you need to complete the Forge of Souls (FoS) on either heroic or normal difficulty, complete some quests and then finish Pit of Saron (PoS) on either normal or heroic difficulty.
The dungeon features some amazing quests which take you and your friends along an epic journey in one of Blizzard’s most harsh, cold, difficult, yet astonishing five-player experience ever seen. In total there are seven quests in this dungeon, six of those is a quest-line.
While the Lich King's attention is focused on the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade ripping through the front gates, players will be tested as they assist Jaina Proudmoore (

) and Sylvanas Windrunner (

) in infiltrating the citadel through an alternate entrance.
As you struggle to get past the dungeon, players will be offered both iLevel 219 loot in the normal mode and iLevel 232-loot in the heroic mode, as well as random Bind on Pickup epics, loads of uncommon (green) items, and gold.
All in all it’s an amazing dungeon.

Serving as the first wing in this expansive dungeon, the Forge of Souls will quickly put players to the test of carving through the Scourge stronghold into deeper, more treacherous locations. Lady Sylvanas Windrunner commands the Horde forces, and Lady Jaina Proudmoore directs the Alliance forces.
No attunement is required to enter, but completing the instance quests is required to gain entrance to the Pit of Saron.

Trash

This wing is dominated by The Cult of the Damned.

These are big skeletons who do nothing fancy but Shroud of Runes; a Spell Reflect whichcasters need to look out for – it has four charges and eight-second duration. They walk in pairs of two.

Next up is a pack with several NPC’s. These are Undead and Humanoids so they can be shackled, polymorphed and crowd controlled with other various methods. These should go down painfully but can be quite stressful for your healers if they don’t pay attention. Most of them are casters – they use Shadow Bolt, Frost Nova, Shield of Bones and other Area of Effect (AoE) spells.

Throughout the wing players will meet the Spiteful Apparitions. They are small skulls which appear out of nowhere and explode, dealing mediocre damage to everyone within 15 yards: Normal; 4500 to 5500 Shadow Damage. Heroic: 7200 to 8800 Shadow Damage. Just ignore them and take the hit. Watch out if you’re low on health, though!

Last but not least we have the Spectral Warden! It’s a ghost which really should be pulled one-by-one or you risk taking too much damage than your healer can manage. They cast Veil of Shadow on a random target which reduces healing received by 75%. They also cast Wail of Souls which is the real danger of this mob. It’s a volley of shadow bolts, basically. It inflicts 4250 to 5750 Shadow damage to players within 40 yards of the caster, in normal mode and 5950 to8050 Shadow damage in heroic mode.

Bosses
The Forge of Souls has only two bosses: Bronjahm, the Godfather of Souls, and Devourer of Souls.

Bronjahm

Bronjahm, the Godfather of Souls, is the first boss in the Forge of Souls. He oversees some of the most disturbing devices the Scourge engineers have ever created - the Soul Grinders.

Strategy (Boss kill; Look in the bottom!)
“The fight against Bronjahm has two phases. In Phase 1 players have to weaken him and destroy the Corrupted Soul Fragments that Bronjahm separates from players. These Soul Fragments hover towards Bronjahm and heal him if they arrive. The affected player which Bronjahm is channeling the spell on should try to move as far from Bronjahm as he can in order to maximize travel time of the Fragments.

Phase 1 ends at around 30% with Bronjahm teleporting to the center of the room. From here he will cast a constant vortex that hurts anyone on touching or even crossing the boundaries. Players will have to stay near the inside of the room to avoid being hit by it. He will periodically fear a player through the vortex, so healers will need to be sure to keep players topped off and be attentive of which player is feared.” – Wowhead
Simply kill the add which spawns when he does Corrupt Soul on one of the party members, and move in during Soulstorm, aka the vortex.

Devourer of Souls

The Devourer of Souls is a being of unknown species, the second but also the last boss in the Forge of Souls. It guards the Crucible of Souls, needed to temper Quel'Delar. The Devourer of Souls stands guard over the souls stolen by the Lich King.

Strategy(Boss kill; Look in the bottom!)

“The Devourer casts Phantom Blast constantly on the main tank if he is not performing another ability.

Frequently he will jump to another player in the party and create a Well of Souls on the floor. The well will last up to 15 seconds and does intense damage to anyone standing in it.

‘Devourer of Souls begins to cast Mirrored Soul!’

Whenever Mirror Soul is active, any damage done to the Devourer will be mirrored to whoever has the debuff. Therefore it is crucial to stop DPS while it is up.

‘Devourer of Souls begins to Unleash Souls!’

Another ability for the Devourer is to stop whatever he is doing and summon a very large number of wraiths. They do not hit very hard but there are a lot of them and they cannot be targeted. Start running away if the damage starts becoming too great.

‘Devourer of Souls begins to cast Wailing Souls!’

Finally, the Devourer will unleash a wail of souls. This is a 90 degree sweep of the room (either clockwise or counterclockwise) starting from a position selected at random. The wail starts about 3 seconds after casting it and will wail for 15 seconds. Anyone caught in the wail will take a very high amount of damage that ticks every 0.4 seconds.” – Wowhead
