I prefer to cover a portal with a death gate. But you could also cover the same portal with your portal, so they couldn't click on it.

As for the title of the thread tho, "how to confuse an idiot" there are easier ways, and you can do it real life. As you talk to someone, lean left and right, and keep staring over their shoulder at nothing. Idiots will keep turning around to look
