Resto Shamans might not be one of the easiest classes to play due to the large number of totems and spells they have.
As a Shaman you need to start thinking in a little different way, Shaman fights are very situational each situation requires the usage of the right totem. You need 1k reliance to play decently.
I am not a gladiator, I am just someone who thinks he can play his shaman around 2k, there are way better Shamans out there, but the below advices I havenât read anywhere so I thought I might share my experience around the 2k rating.
I will list some of the differences between different types of shaman
A. Resto Shaman at 1000 rating:
⢠Basically you are just standing there and healing yourself or your partner(s).
⢠You put your totems down at the start and forget about them
⢠You rarely use Line of sight to your advantage
⢠You don't use shocks
B. Resto Shaman at 1400 rating:
⢠You can use some Line of sight to your advantage
⢠You take a look at what totems are down occasionally
⢠Sometimes you purge your target
⢠Sometimes you use shocks
C. Resto Shaman around 1800 rating:
⢠All your totems / Spells are key bound
⢠effectively using important macros
⢠Perfectly using Line of sight to your advantage
⢠able to correctly kite mele classes
⢠Can be aggressive when needed
D. Resto Shaman at 1800 - 2000+ rating:
⢠your totems are up 100% even when his totems gets killed you put down the right totems again
⢠got a caster / healer on your focus and always keeping windshear on cool down
⢠you hex in perfect times and coordinate it with windshear (windshear - Hex - windshear)
⢠you coordinate the CC with your partner(s)
⢠you are able to heal through cleaving (more than 1 target get hit at the same time)
⢠you use grounding totem against critical spells (hex, fear, pala stuns, etc...)
⢠you put down your totems in a strategic location, forcing your opponents to do some efforts to kill them
⢠Purging spells that could cost u the game (Innervate, Hymn of hope, Avenging Wrath, etc...)
⢠You know when to go aggressive and when to be defensive
⢠Can kite anything from mele to casters
Resto Shamans setup:
To be honest, I think 2v2ing for a shaman is harder than most of the classes, so I would advise you to 3v3 or 5v5.
I think the best resto Shaman options in 3v3 are
1. Rogue, Lock, Shaman
2. Mage, Lock, Shaman (wizard cleave)
3. Hunter, Retri, Shaman
4. Lock, DK, Shaman (shadow cleave)
5. Warior 2 healers (itâs for pussies)
and there are many good setups.
If you want to heal a 5v5, make sure u either have a priest or Holly pala healing with, Druid / Shaman isnât really good coz they can't dispel magic
How to play against other healers:
1. Holly Paladins: purge him and his partners, put him on focus and windshear him all the time. When his partner is low, he will probably use Aura mastery, Hex him, he will definitely bubble to save him and from there either switch to kill the pala or keep pressuring his partner(s)
2. priests: Purge stamina buff from everyone, always make sure your tremor totem is down, good priests will always kill it before they fear u, as soon as he kill it put it down again, if he is low on mana, kite his shadow fiend, donât let him hit you as much as possible. If you see him casting Hymn of hope or divine hymn windshear it ASAP and spam purge him till the buff is gone.
3. Druids: donât let him cyclone you how? Ground the first one, windshear the second and he will have to go heal his partner(s) if you guys are putting enough pressure. Hex? Donât hex his partner, coz he will decurse it, hex him when he is in human form (why? he will just shape shift?) good then he wonât cyclone u for a while and u cost him some mana) The most important things purge his innervate
4. Shamans: just like paladins they are easy for another good shaman, ground hexes, windshear his heals and purge his riptides. when u see a mana tide totem, try to kill
Hope this helps, have a good weekend.
