Ok, this is just a list of tips for those of you who want to make your gathering/farming be a little more than it is.
For those of you who have been farming herbs/ore for a long time, this may or may not help.
Most of these are pretty common sense, but I see people doing it all the time anyway.
1. Fly LOW. Probably the easiest one to follow. All the herbs/ore are on the ground, so the closer you fly, the less time you waste going up and down. Now some places you can't always be low down, but try your best. I generally fly low enough that caster mobs can target me, but by time they are done casting I am long gone.
2. Remember you are farming ore/herbs, not honor. In other words, don't camp a corpse, and don't start a huge pvp battle over a small saronite ore deposit. The only thing I actually fight for anymore is Titanium Ore. The time you spends fighting/dying/killing is time you could be flying to the next spot.
3. Use gathermate/gatherer. Using either of these addons will save valuable time, as you will be able to see all the spots you have found ore/herbs before. You can get Gathermate HERE, and Gatherer HERE.
4. Use the Routes addon sparingly. While this is an invaluable tool for leveling your skills, it is also a heavily used addon. The only zone I use it for anymore is Wintergrasp. The problem here is that everyone uses this addon. I can't tell you how many times I have seen people following an identical path to mine. They had the same (or similar) data, so routes made them the same (or similar) path. This leads me into my next tip...
5. Make up your own routes. Preferrably one that leads you from one zone to the next. My personal route actually leads me through 4 different zones, and ends at a flightpath, so I can either hearth or just fp back to dal.
6. Set limits. Do you really want to spend 4 minutes running through a cave just for a regular saronite ore node? Or in Scholozar Basin, do you really feel like pulling 10 mobs just to get that 1 herb? Know what you are willing to do to get your item, and keep it at that.
7. Search all areas! Yes even though the west and south ends of scholozar are heavly farmed for ore, I still go there. Why? Because I still find ore there. Just because it is checked more often doesn't mean there is nothing there.
8. Use speed to your advantage. If you are a pally use crusader aura to give you the edge over others, a dk, try using an extra spec (if you have one) to get "On a Pale Horse". Or just do arenas like mad and get the 310% mountThe faster you get to the nodes, the faster you get the stuff you want.
9. Determine the down time on your server. When you can go to Dalaran and find less than 20 people from your faction, that's a good time to farm. Less people equal less competition.
I hope this helps someone, even if it is only 1 tip out of 9 that helps you.
