    Rogue/disci priest 2v2

    General Information
Over the course of the season our strategies have developed a lot, and seeing how Priest/Rogue is one of the trademark combos you always hear about I decided it deserved a guide! This guide will be written mostly from a Priest's perspective, but if any of you Rogues out there have questions feel free to ask and I'll get that lazy bum on here to answer them.

    Builds
    60/11/0
    41/5/25

    Addons
I like to keep my addon count to a minimum, using only Gladius, Focus Frame, and OmniCC. My rogue uses these in addition to Scrolling Combat Text, and ClassTimer.

    Macros
There are plenty more macros on the AJ forums, these are just the ones we use.

    Glyphs
Glyph of Power World: Shield, Glyph of Renew, Glyph of Dispel Magic
Glyph of Preparation, Glyph of Vigor, Glyph of Eviscerate

    Gear
I use full pvp gear(950~ resil/21K~ health) while still maintaining around 75 spell penetration and the 4% hit needed to cap. I go full survivability because normally I'm the kill target. Against dps/healer teams I like to use the Naxx 25 weapon Torch of Holy Fire for the extra spellpower and mp5, but on 2 dps teams I'll switch to the arena weapon. My Rogue partner uses half pvp gear and half pve gear, at about 420 resilience. This is done to provide enough pressure from damage, and 420~ resilience seems to be just enough to give him some breathing room if they try to focus him down. We're also both engineers with the Gnomish Lightning Generator trinket and nitro boots(this really helps on the switches and getaways).

    Terminology
Bubble - Power Word:Shield or Divine Shield
    Fear - Psychic Scream
    Sacrafice - Hand of Sacrafice
    Bop - Hand of Protection
    Freedom - Hand of Freedom
    CC - Crowd Control(Fears,Blinds,etc.)
Stall - Basically, stay on the current dps target and get mana burns on the healer if possible.

    Priest Tips
You want to make sure your Rogue is hindered as little as possible, this means dispelling all stuns, snares, fears and the like as quickly as possible. You are also going to be doing a lot of assisted dps with mind blast/shadow word: death combos when the target is low on health. Mana burning can be very useful on healers, even if you're only able to get just one because it forces them to stop whatever they're doing and line of sight you, but be careful not to run yourself out of mana doing this. Against mage teams shadow word: death is going to be your best friend, when they cast polymorph you can cast it at the end of their cast to break the poly(amazing against mage/rogue). You can also try not using your fear ward before the match starts and casting it right before you know someone is going to fear you, this way it doesn't get dispelled and wasted. Personally I just put fear ward on the Rogue in the beginning, but this sounds like it would work pretty well in certain scenarios.

    Rogue Tips

    Quote:
It’s important to not always just blow through all of your cooldowns thinking you might be able to pull of a quick win. Although it might work sometimes, it’s just not very reliable in the end. For instance, against shaman/warlock team it’s almost a must to save a cloak and vanish for when you are going for the kill. A screw up on a blind/sap combo will easily turn that win into a loss. The same thing goes for death knight/holy paladin. I usually still have the majority of my cooldowns left over for when we make the switch to burst the Paladin down. It’s almost a necessity to still have a vanish or two as well as cold blood to ensure that you will be able to make the kill. On a majority of our matches, I will blow a sprint at the beginning of the battle to ensure a sap. Saps are VERY important in this composition. This allows my priest to always get off the initial dispels plus be in position for the first fear. If you notice that your Priest is getting hit pretty hard and needs extra help, do your best to just gouge/stun and let your priest recover as best as possible. There are lots of situations where your Priest might have difficulties catching up to the player he is trying to dispel/fear, and I am always very aware of where they are and do my best to get a quick shiv on them if I happen to run by them while still focusing on my current target.

We have been asked a few times how we deal with warlock/healer teams in blades edge, and I cannot stress enough that you do NOT follow that Warlock if he jumps off the bridge. If he does this, make a switch to the healer. If the healer jumps off as well, just stay up top, get out of combat, have the Priest drink and Rogue re-stealth. If the Warlock pet is still up top, you will need to kill that first.

    Matchups
The basic idea behind priest/rogue is kill one, cc one. Switching targets is an option in almost every match, if you see an opportunity to switch and kill someone quickly, take it.

    DK / Paladin (Holy)Difficulty:8/10
There are many strategies for fighting this combo, I'll just give you ours. Start with a bubble on the rogue to keep him from being taken out of stealth by death and decay/consecrate and sapping the Paladin. Next, have your rogue open on the Death Knight. While the Paladin is sapped, the Priest should dispel all buffs on the Paladin and the Death Knight and mind blast the Death Knight. Fear the Paladin just before sap breaks, normally he trinkets (if he doesn't, stall until you can get another fear and he trinkets). Once the Paladin has trinketed, blind him (Priest should spam dispel on the Death Knight for the incoming sacrafice). Paladin will bubble, once he has mass dispel him. Rogue vanish/open on the Paladin and Priest mind blast/shadow word death him. Fear both the Death Knight and the Paladin. We're usually able to kill him here. Depending on the Death Knight's gear and spec he may be taking little to no damage, allowing the Paladin to save his bubble. If this is the case then wait til the Paladin freedoms his Death Knight and switch to the Paladin, mass dispel his bubble as quickly as you can and finish him. Remember to dispel chains of ice and stuns from your Rogue in this fight.

    Warlock / Shaman (Resto)Difficulty:7/10
The Warlock is normally our kill target. Start with a bubble on the Rogue and sap the Shaman. Open on the Warlock, during the sap the Priest should be dispelling buffs from the Warlock and knocking down tremor totem. Fear the Shaman as soon as the sap ends, normally he trinkets (if he doesn't, stall until you can get another fear and he trinkets, always knock down tremor first). Once the Shaman has trinketed, blind him. This usually isn't long enough for us to kill the Warlock, so have your Rogue save his cloak for this moment, and cloak/vanish/sap the Shaman when the blind is ending. Now you can finish off the Warlock.

    Warrior / Pala (holy) Difficulty:5/10
We kill the Warrior in this setup. Start with a bubble on the Rogue and sap the Paladin (dispel sacrafice if he has it up). Rogue open on the Warrior, Priest dispel buffs from Warrior and Paladin, and mind blast/shadow word death the Warrior. Fear the Paladin just before sap ends, Rogue dismantle Warrior just as kidney shot drops to avoid shield wall and the Paladin should trinket (if he doesn't stall until you can get another fear and he trinkets). Once the Paladin trinkets, blind him(Priest spam dispel the warrior for the incoming sacrafice). He should bubble; mass dispel the bubble and start mana burning. Normally at this point the Warrior has either already died, or the Paladin has to stand in the open so much to heal him, that you fully drain his mana.

Druid (Feral) / Paladin (Holy) Difficulty:7/10
This is very similar to our Paladin/Death Knight strat. Start by bubbling the Rogue, then sap the Paladin. Once the Druid opens on the Priest, Rogue open on the Druid. During the sap the Priest should dispel the Druid and Paladin's buffs, and mind blast the Druid. Fear the Paladin before sap drops, normally he trinkets(if he doesn't, stall until you can get another fear on the Paladin). Once the Paladin trinkets, blind him(Priest should spam dispel on the Druid for the incoming sacrafice). He should bubble, mass dispel the bubble and once your Priest's fear is back up, Rogue vanish and open on the Paladin as the Priest fears the Druid. Normally we kill the Paladin before the fear drops from the Druid.

    Mage / Rogue Difficulty:8/10
This team can go for either one of you at any time forcing you to play very defensive, and depending on their race they can be near impossible to beat(double undead). Positioning and patience are keys to success against this team. Don't trinket unless you need to, cause there's more cc where that came from. If there are any line of sight objects available on the map, your Priest should be standing behind it, and your Rogue should be looking for their Rogue to sap. There are three ways this could go. First, your Rogue gets sapped. They're just going to burst him down as fast as they can while cc'ing your Priest. Your Priest must make sure to either shadow word: death the polymorphs or just line of sight them all together, also if possible fan of knives his mirror images. Their Rogue is going to be the kill target, and it helps if as you're killing him you try to kite him behind a line of sight object with your Priest. Second, you sap their Rogue. If the Mage comes and aoe's on top of his sapped Rogue, then sap the Mage and open on their Rogue. If the Mage stays far away then still open on the Rogue and save your cloak for when you're low health and need to get away. Finally, your Priest gets sapped. The Mage is going to come in and spell steal buffs so he can't get sapped himself. If you stood behind a line of sight object then he'll have a hard time of doing this and your Rogue can still get a sap on him. Once he's sapped, start dispelling him and do a few holy novas, cause the Rogue is near. Once the Rogue opens on your Priest try to open on him immediately. He probably won't stay on the Priest long and vanish soon after opening, so you have a small window of time to open on him. If he is successful with that vanish then he's probably going to see your Rogue, and the Mage is definately lining up a shatter combo by now, so I suggest cheap shotting the Mage or re-sapping(if possible but unlikely) to stop the shatter, then vanishing yourself. The Rogue should open on the Priest again if he doesn't find your Rogue or you don't find him, so then open on him again and kill him. In all three of these scenarios keeping a rupture/garrote on the Rogue is very important, this keeps them from vanishing and escaping as easily. Also I cannot stress enough how important dispelling your Rogue is, get all the polymorphs and all the slows/novas off him. Make sure to keep your Rogue at 60-70%~ health as much as possible because if he drops any lower they will silence you and burst him down before you have a say in the matter.

    Dk / Shaman(Resto)Difficulty:7/10
Shaman is the kill target in this setup. Start by bubbling the Rogue and sapping the Death Knight. Rogue open on the Shaman, priest should be dispelling the Shaman and knocking down the tremor totem during the stuns, once tremor is down fear the Shaman(hopefully you can fear both of them, but if not just fear the Shaman). At this point have your Rogue blind the Death Knight. Keep attacking the Shaman, remembering to dispel his earth shield and knock down totems and much as possible. Also try to dispel chains of ice from your Rogue. Once your fear is back fear the Death Knight(again try to get both, but if it's not possible then just the Death Knight. Usually the Shaman dies about now. Priest should assist in dps with mind blast/shadow word death whenever the Shaman is low in health.

    Hunter / paladin (Holy)Difficulty:10/10
We have lost most of our matches against this setup. The only strategy we've had any success with against this combo is as follows. Start with a bubble on your Rogue and sap the Paladin(Rogue dismantle the trap while you're around if possible). Rogue open on the Hunter, Priest dispel the buffs from Hunter and Paladin then mind blast the Hunter. Fear the Paladin before sap drops. Normally he trinkets(if he doesn't then stall until you can get another fear on the Paladin, Priest line of sight the Hunter as much as possible). Once the Paladin trinkets, blind him(spam dispel on the Hunter for the incoming sacrafice). He should bubble; mass dispel and once the Priest's fear is back up Rogue vanish/open on the Paladin as the Priest fears the Hunter. Normally the Paladin dies during this time. Rogues make sure you're not on a flare when you vanish.

    Druid (Feral) Shaman(Resto)Difficulty:5/10
Start with a bubble on the rogue and sap the Shaman(if you see the Druid sap him). Rogue open on the Shaman, Priest dispel buffs from Shaman and knock down tremor. Fear the Shaman as kidney shot is dropping to force the trinket. Rogue try to cloak the incoming cyclones, and blind the Druid if he starts to channel tranquility. Priest should be assisting dps on the Shaman after the fear. Shaman usually dies pretty quickly.

    Paladin (Ret) Priest(Disc)Difficulty:3/10
Going to kill the Priest here. Start with a bubble on the Rogue and sap the Paladin. Rogue open on their Priest, your Priest should dispel might from the Paladin and dispel their Priest as much as possible before sap breaks. Fear the Paladin as sap goes down, if their priest is pressured enough the Paladin will be forced to trinket. If the Paladin trinkets blind him, he will bubble. During all this your Priest should be dispelling their Priest heavily, and mana burning their Priest if the opportunity is there. Paladin will eventually sacrafice and bop their Priest, dispel these as quickly as you can. Their Priest is usually heavily pressured and dies relatively quickly.

    Paladin (Ret) Shaman (Resto)Difficulty:6/10
This fight can be absurdly easy or absurdly difficult. Start with a bubble on the Rogue and sap the Shaman. Rogue open on the Paladin, Priest dispel all the Paladin's buffs, mind blast him, and knock down tremor totem. Fear the Shaman as sap goes down, he normally trinkets(if he doesn't then stall til you can get another fear on him, after knocking down tremor). Once the Shaman trinkets blind him, the Paladin should bubble. Mass dispel the bubble and Rogue vanish/sap the Shaman and open on the Paladin. Priest knock down tremor and fear the Shaman, the Paladin normally dies here.

    Hunter / Priest(Disc)Difficulty:4/10
This is very similar to RetPaladin/Priest. Start by bubbling Rogue and sapping the Hunter, avoiding flare and dismantling trap if possible. Rogue open on their Priest, your Priest should dispel fear ward from the hunter(if he has it) and dispel their Priest. Fear the hunter as sap drops, if he trinkets blind him. Your Priest should be mana burning as their Priest is being attacked, along with dispelling bubbles and renew. Usually their Priest dies here.

    Rogue / Shaman (Resto)Difficulty:7/10
Rogue is the kill target but starting this fight can be awkward. Bubble Rogue and yourself at the start and Rogue sap the Shaman. Most likely the Priest will get sapped, and the Rogues will look for each other for awhile. Normally their Rogue opens on the Priest, once this happens your Rogue should open on theirs. Priest should be dispelling earthshield from their Rogue and bloodlust/heroism whenever it's used. Knock down tremor totem and fear the Shaman when their Rogue is at 60%~ health, Shaman should trinket. Once the Shaman trinkets blind him. Sometimes their Rogue is dead by now and sometimes he isn't, if he isn't then your Rogue should vanish/sap their Shaman and finish the job. Your Rogue should also remember to keep rupture on their Rogue at all times.

    Rogue / Druid(Resto)6/10
Druid is going to be the kill target. Start by bubbling yourself and your Rogue. Stand in a spot where you have the line of sight advantage when their Rogue opens on your Priest. As soon as this happens, your Rogue should open on their Rogue with a cheap shot, then gouge, then slice and dice and vanish/open on their druid once he comes out to heal. Your Priest should then fear their Rogue and start dispelling the Druid, must dispel barkskin. Their Rogue will be forced to switch to your Rogue, but he won't trinket the fear. If he accidentally does then blind him. Priest should be assisting in dps after dispelling barkskin, usually the Druid dies around now unfortunately. If he doesn't then your Rogue should switch to their Rogue until the Druid is approachable, and your Priest should be trying to mana burn him. Once he's in range fear their Rogue again and your Rogue should vanish/open on their Druid. This time their Rogue may trinket, blind him. Druid should definately die now, remember to dispel barkskin if it's back up.

    Warlock / Paladin(Holy)Difficulty:6/10
A lot like Paladin/Warrior. Bubble your Rogue and sap the Pally. Rogue open on the Warlock and Priest dispel buffs from both the Paladin and the Warlock and mind blast the Warlock. Fear the Paladin once sap is about to break. Normally he trinkets and bops the Warlock. Your Priest should be spamming dispel on the Warlock after the fear, and your Rogue should blind the Paladin if he trinkets(if he doesn't then stall until you get another fear on him, be ready to dispel sacrafice from the Warlock after the Paldin trinkets). Once the Paladin's blinded he will bubble and if he didn't bop the Warlock earlier he will now, dispel it. Mass dispel the Paladin and fear him. Usually the Warlock is dead by now, but some crafty Warlocks can live through it, just continue killing the Warlock until you can get another CC rotation on the Paladin, he should die eventually.

    Druid (Feral) Priest(Disc)Difficulty:8/10
Start by bubbling the Rogue and yourself, and sapping their Priest. Rogue open on their Priest, your Priest should dispel their Priest until the Druid comes out then dispel the Druid as well. Divine Hymn both the Priest and the Druid(the Druid can enrage out of fear so I use divine hymn to hopefully force the trinket). Mana burn the Priest and keep dispelling his bubbles/renews. Their Druid is going to be trying to cc your Rogue, try to cloak cyclone if you've got their Priest within kill range. Also their Feral druid will most likely start on your Priest, if your Priest gets in trouble then stun/gouge/blind the Druid until your Priest recovers and gets some distance, then start back on their Priest. Eventually you should have their Priest dead or oom and be able to finish him. Remember to keep abolish disease on whoever the Druid is attacking, and keep faerie fire/roots/fear off your Rogue.

    Rogue / Druid (Feral)Difficulty:9/10
Muchos burst. They are most likely going to try and burst your Priest down, so put bubble prayer of mending and renew on yourself, and keep them up. The Druid will open on you first, your Rogue should cheap shot and gouge the Feral druid. Once their Rogue opens on your Priest your Rogue should blind him immediately. Once their Rogue trinkets that blind your Rogue should vanish/open on the rogue, and kill him there. Fear the Druid when he shifts into caster form to heal/cc. Normally your Priest dies before you can enact this strat .
    .
    Rogue / priest(Disc)Difficulty:8/10
The dreaded mirror match This fight is very, very tricky. Start by bubbling yourself and your Rogue. Your Priest and their Priest are likely going to both get sapped and the Rogues will look for each other for a bit. If your Rogue doesn't find theirs before sap drops from their Priest, open on their Priest. If their Rogue opens on your Priest then it basically becomes which Priest can live longer, if you're confident you will outlast their Priest then there's no need to switch to their Rogue. However, we normally come across undead Rogues, so my partner has to switch to the Rogue. If you're undead and they are not, I recommend your Rogue just sitting on their Priest. However if you're not undead, I suggest switching to their Rogue. Try to fear their Priest when their Rogue is at 60%~ health, forcing the Priest to trinket. If he trinkets then blind him, then your Rogue should vanish/sap him if possible. If you are unable to fear due to crippling poison or distance, mana burn. Many things go wrong in this fight and force you to adjust, basically you want to get a long CC rotation on one of them(fear/blind/sap/fear) and kill the other. Whoever gets this done first usually wins.

    pre nerf guide...

blind and fear share the same diminishing return, so those CC chains are not working as good anymore

moreover it's quite impossible to dispell barkskin if the druid has it improved with talents (and that's almost sure)
