When the patch was released, Faction Restrictions on PVP servers were removed.

Not long after Bl!zzard announced in a blue post that this was implemented because of a system they are developing
which allows you to transfer your character to the opposite faction.

I have two level 80 hordies who I dont play anymore mostly because most the people I used to play with are now allies.

My suggestion to anyone who thinks they will be taking advantage of this new feature apon it's release, is to create a
few level 1's on your target server with the names you want for your future faction transfer... In other words, reserve
that name for yourself before someone else nabbs it.
