Changing Your IP Address w/ a Router

Not sure if there is an easier way to do this but this technique has served me well.

Basically, you open your internet browser(doesn't work on Chrome) and type in your router address. It is usually 192.168.2.1.

You'll be brought to a sign in page.

The password is admin (unless someone changed it).
If there is a username box, make it admin as well.

Once logged in, you have to find the Wide Area Network settings. Once you found it, you need to look for your MAC Address (the one you can edit).

All you have to do is change a few numbers/letters in your MAC address and apply. Once you click apply, you will have to reset your modem because you would have gotten disconnected from the internet. Just unplug it for 5 minutes then plug it back in.

Once the modem turns on, you should have a new IP address and be connected to the internet once again.

this will only work if your local ip is set to be configured on DCHP with your network adapter. other than that, you can goto control panel- net conn - your ne adapter - properties - TCPIP and set your ip in the range your router allows (usually try something from 10-100) depending on how many people are connected to your network.

Ok there is a difference between your external IP address and internal (local) IP addresses. If your ISP does dynamically assign IP address ranges to different regions then reseting your connection could change your IP, but a lot of times they just assign you a IP address. This method just changes the MAC of the router, making your ISP think its a different device, therefore giving you a new IP.

But if say you go to TCP/IP settings and your IP is like 198.168.x.x then you have a internal (local) IP assigned to your computer by your router. Changing that IP won't change your external IP though, or the IP of your network. There really isn't any reasons though in the scope of video games I guess you could say, to change your internal IP address. If you did you would just have to route port numbers to a different IP after your done setting up port forwarding settings.

Anyways, no offense but this is more like a "This is what I do, might or might not work for you" type of thread. You should at least include several common IP's of routers, such as 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Also the username and password combinations on factory settings is usually a combination of admin and/or administrator.

I've done this before using 192.168.1.1, and when I do change my MAC address my connection is no longer working, it worked before changing them one by one, but changing a bunch of numbers and letters at once will cause my connection to fail and then I will have to have it reset back to the normal one.

Why did you show photos? those pics are only for the firmware of whatever brand your router is. Also the default password for someones router is usually not admin. If you know the model of your router google "the model name and default login settings" . I have seen everything from admin to comcast to 1234 to user as both passwords and usernames. Its kind of clear you know very little about networks.

I'd recommend people not to follow this persons guide. Changing MAC addresses can really mess up things in the long run the way he is doing it.

I've went through 4 routers in the past couple years and all 4 of them had the default password of "admin". I highly doubt the default password on a router would be "1234" or "comcast". So really, its clear you know little about default router passwords :P.

This is different for all routers I have an AT&T router and this (guide) does not apply to me.
Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Only 4 routers in the past couple of years? Is that it? I doubt experience with only 4 routers is enough to justify what you said, compared to the evidence that irishluckboy has already provided. I've seen routers with 1234 as the password as well.
