    Kakashisan's Simple Mage Guide

Kakashisan's How Not to suck as an 80 Mage Guide

Well basically, this is very simple. If you have an 80 Mage and think you just aren't living up to your potential, there are many things you can do to fix this. First of all, make sure you have the right gear. You want to make sure you're geared appropiately and that you're doing decent DPS. This, however is for PvE. You want to make sure you have ran heroics and have atleast 1400+ spell power before you try anything big. This is basically self-explanatory. Get the right gear, find an appropriate rotation and have the correct talent build.
Talents: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
That's a good spec for PvE.
Your rotation should be just like this: Scorch, Scorch, Scorch, Scorch, Scorch(to get the 10% crit chance up), Living Bomb, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Living Bomb when it runs out and Scorch when the effect is about to fade, rinse, repeat. Use Pyroblast whenever Hot Streak is up; if you don't take advantage of the instant cast Pyroblast you won't max out your DPS capabilities.
That's it for PvE really and make sure to listen to your raid leaders on specific boss fights.

There's a whole different guide for PvP mages and I find them to be a lot more fun.
They're basically a pew-pew class that will take out any class in under 5 seconds given the fact they have their CD's up. Talent builds affect them a lot.
Here's a nice talent build: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Something along the lines of that with your own little zest for personal preferences.
It's basically a Presence of Mind + Arcane Power + Pyroblast trick. Followed up with an Arcane Barrage and/or Fire Blast along with some other instant cast spells that you may have up. If that doesn't kill them and they're a healing class, make sure to counterspell them right when they're about to heal. Kite them with Slow if they're a melee class till your Arcane Barrage or other instant cast spells are up. Basically, the scheme is to PoM + AP + Pyro and then Arcane Barrage + other instant cast spells while kiting if they aren't dead by then. Make sure to have trinkets to deploy if you're stunned or need some extra spell power.

A much more advanced guide will be released very soon with scenarios with every single class, along with detailed boss fights and what you need to do during them.

Ok before writing the next thing i would like to say: I have the rights to tell what i think about this and to have my oppinion.

Ok so basicly your making a guide about 2 spell rotations were only 1 would work?
No offence but i wouldent call this a guide.

Also The pvp thing i wouldent recommend to make. Since all mages (yes all) should have their own spec and their own way to play it.

But yeah sure if you cant PvP with a mage you can always go spec Arcane..

    Oh and besides that..

Arcane does more dps than frostfire now

Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair!

no missle barrage in your pvp spec?
1 point into in combat mana regen?
7% more spirit yet you only have 10% in combat regen?

this pvp build makes no sense at all

you specced to get 30% chance to avoid arcane intellect and dampen magic being dispelled as well....

Gah, wrong build. And, thus the simple in the name of the guide... most mages I know on my server have no idea what to do in either PvE or PvP because all they do is quest to 80 and expect phat epix right away. Jeez, y'all need to chill.

you might want to try something more like this
    http://talent.************.com/?mage...h=010621060503

I'm specced this way on my 73 mage, minus impact of course and I've been killing 80's with it with relative ease. Right now, with my less then great spell power AM still pulls in 4000 damage with only 2 stacks of arcane blast over the course of 2.5 seconds(with missle barrage of course). If you time it right you can get the 5th missle to land with arcane barrage which crits for 3400ish

Then the pom pyro after that for 5100, plus ignite ticking for 510.

Those numbers are taken from dueling a lvl 74 dk on my lvl 73 mage so it's not like i'm padding them by attacking the lvl 60 target dummies.

Cast order, if you aren't being attacked is:
Stack as much AB as you can follow with AM add the Barrage on the end so it gains the 45% as well and then pom pyro

If you have to stay mobile cast order looks more like:
Barrage, fireblast, barrage, CoC, barrage, ice lance, barrage, fireblast

and so on, because of world cooldowns you're keeping yourself casting as fast as possible doing as much dps as possible

You didn't tell us which glyphs, and that rotation isn't good.. You should use glyph of FFB, and gylph of scorch.. rotation should be this:

    Living bomb
    2x Scorch (if glyphed)
    3x frost fire bolt
    1x scorch
Living bomb (when first one expires)
    3x frost fire bolt
    1x scorch
    living bomb...

If you have hotstreak DON'T do the 1x scorch, after FFB use pyro blast..

you should start off with LB first because it can't crit off the ticks (I'm pretty sure).. And only crits when it expires..

Also, talents should look more along the eyes of:

    WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Mage -> Talent Calculator

    (if geared)

If not that well geared, and are doing heroics, full frost is the best.. As full frost make sure you get shatter, improved blizzard, and just blizzard groups of 3+ to reach highest DPS.. If you get agro quickly invis..

And for pvp.. You got it all wrong imo.. It should look like:

    WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Mage -> Talent Calculator

If geared, if not geared and find your self going oom:

    WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Mage -> Talent Calculator

    Trust me it works..

You don't provide enough information to make this guide, and I think you have NO clue what your talking about.. Poor attempt for reputation..

I'm sorry, but this is the standard frost PvP spec, any mage would agree

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

I'm not so sure about arcane, I never liked it >.>

But as far as raiding goes...

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

This was the best dps spec pre 3.0.8, I don't think anyone is sure what it is right now. Some say FFB but others say Arcane.

Arcane is OP right now. For arena and 2v2 or 1v1, Arcane is the way to go. By the way, I'll take all of the informative posts into consideration when I redo this guide. Obviously I'm not experienced enough with Mages yet to have made this guide. Thank you guys for not taking it too seriously and giving me advice. <3

Yeah arcane is better in some cases, but when you have a rogue sticking on you 100% of the time in the match then you are through.. there is no way an arcane mage will beat a good rogue, or any melee class if they stick on you.

In my experience I get torn in two if I don't have my CDs, if they are able to survive my burst and I burn my Ice block with evocation, then I'm done for. I could try to use invisibility to recover but the chances are slim.
