Serpentshrine Cavern - Fathom Lord Karathress

Found this guide, it's detailed and all that stuffs, so i decided i wanted to post it (It's from Bosskillers, amazing site <.<)

    Location

Fathom-Lord Karathress is in the back of the instance. There are two ways to get to him; you can go through the Tidewalker side by either killing Tidewalker or by running past him (Tidewalker resets when he goes to leave his room, or you can go through Leotheras the Blind's side: through this side you can actually skip the boss and just clear some extra trash packs to get to Karathress.

    Class Setup

4 Tanks (at least 1 warrior tank, will go over this later). Out of these 4 tanks only 2 need to be specced to tank.
2 Rogues (at least, can be more as they do considerable damage in this fight).
2 Shadow Priests (used for mana issues, can be dumped for more consumable usage).
    2 Holy Priests.
4 Paladins (very useful for auras as well as the ability to bubble and heal almost constantly).
2 Warlocks (needed for imps/health stones, of course).
2-4 Mages (preferably some sort of fast nuking spec).
2+ Shamans (at least one restoration spec; enhancement or elemental shamans are also good for this fight).
2 Hunters (used mostly for Misdirect and a few seconds of tanking on the hunter's pet).
?? Druids (They can be healers, tanks, feral DPS or moonkin, it's flexible; however Innervate should be reserved for a healer).
?? DPS warriors (Can do a lot of damage in this fight due to the fact they have a hard time pulling aggro after the first mob because the tanks have a considerable amount of threat built up by then).

    Consumables

It is suggested to flask the Tidalvess (Shaman) tank and possibly the Karathress tank (the Karathress tank doesn't absolutely need a flask but it helps).

Normal DPS consumables should be used by everyone; same with Mp5, healing, and mana potions.

Flasks do help considerably but are not needed for DPS for the most part. A good method is to use flasks on Tidewalker and then bring them to Karathress.

    Group Setups

Build your groups within the raid for the highest DPS/MPS.

    Boss Abilities

    Fathom-Lord Karathress

    "Shadow Bolt"
Cast every ~10 Seconds. Removes 50% of the total HP of the target.

    "Enrage"
After 10 minutes, Karathress will enrage and one round everyone in his path.

    Element Abilities
After each one of the Fathom-Guards dies, Karathress will obtain these additional abilities, as listed below:
    Tidalvess dies: Spitfire Totem
    Sharkkis dies: The Beast Within
    Caribdis dies: Tidal Surge

    Fathom-Guard Sharkkis (Hunter)

    "Viper Sting"
Stings the target, draining 2736 mana over 8 sec. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on any one target. Not dispellable.

    "Multi Shot"
Hits multiple (3) targets with a ranged attack for about 2.5k-4k.

    "Summon Pet"
About 30 seconds into the pull he will spawn a pet. This pet is either an elemental or a beast. If it's an elemental you can Banish it otherwise you have to tank it.

    "The Beast Within"
Go into a rage, increasing your damage by 30%. Your pet also goes into a rage, causing 50% additional damage for 18 seconds. While enraged, the beast does not feel pity or remorse or fear and it cannot be stopped unless killed.

    Troubleshooting
He doesn't seem to have a minimal range on any of his abilities so standing on him does you no good, doesn't do you harm either though.

If you're having issues with the pet going after healers and one rounding them then I suggest you have the healers stand near the hunters. If your going to do this the hunters should have their pets on stay and aggressive just slightly in front of the healers, towards Sharkkis (Hunter). Also growl should be turned on. This should give the Warlocks and/or tanks time to pick it up before it one rounds the healer.

    Fathom-Guard Tidalvess (Shaman)

    "Frost Shock"
Exactly like the shaman player shock however hits for around 6k.

    "Spitfire Totem"
Much like the Searing totem a Shaman gets but hits up to 5-6 people at a time and deals anywhere from 2.5k-4.5k damage. Placed down every ~27 Seconds. Has about ~25k HP.

    "Earthbind Totem"
More of a nuisance then anything basically ignore it. It's exactly like the Shaman totem.

    "Poison Cleansing Totem"
Possibly the most annoying totem of them all. Causes the Wound Poison you'll be using to drop a lot (will go over this later)

    "Windfury"
Just like the shaman's ability, he gains extra attack power and 2 extra attacks. They causes considerable burst damage however it doesn't seem to go off too often. But either way the tank should always be topped off in health.

    Troubleshooting
As much negation as possible for the tank is really needed: Stoneskin, Blessing of Sacrifice, Grace of Air Totem, Frost Resistance Aura or Totem, Healing Stream Totem, Warrior tank, etc.
The tank on Tidalvess (Shaman) must also be able to hold threat very well as you will be whaling into this mob right off the bat.

Killing his totems is pointless besides the Spitfire, so don't worry about them.

    Fathom-Guard Caribdis (Priest)

    "Water Bolt Volley"
45 Yards range AoE attack, 2.5k-3.5k damage. Not really that serious when you get to her, as she drops really fast, however it does considerable amounts of DPS to the raid. Chain Heals and/or Prayer Of Mending are suggested for this part, preferably Chain Heals due to the usage of groups and classes within them benefiting one another.

    "Heal"
Heals all the Fathom-Gaurds and Karathress. Has a 1 second cast time so Curse of Tongues or Mind Numbing Poison is needed on her at all times. One rogue, or possibly a mage, should be assigned to interrupt this spell.

    "Tidal Surge"
10 Yards range AoE attack. Knocks everyone into the air and encases them in what appears to be an ice block for 3 seconds. No actions can be preformed while encased. Does not lower threat on the tank and does no damage. It happens every ~22 seconds.

    "Whirlwind"
She spouts a whirlwind from herself and it travels through the room based on aggro. It's not targetable and doesn't do any damage. However it knocks players into the air for several seconds and leaves them with a debuff for several (8-12) seconds that increases cast time by 50%. It should be avoided as it hinders casters.

    Troubleshooting
Make sure to use Curse of Tongues or Mind Numbing Poison on her as her Heal cast time is extremely fast (~1 second).
Make sure that the healer who is healing the tank does not stand between the tank and the raid's healers. The same goes for the rogue or mage who is assigned to interrupt.

    Strategy

    Kill Order

Tidalvess (Shaman), Sharkkis (Hunter), Caribdis (Priest), Karathress.

    Positions/Who's Healing Whom

Assign one rogue or mage (preferably a rogue for Mind Numbing Poison but a mage can be used if you have a warlock keep Curse of Tongues on Caribdis (Priest) to interrupt her heals. This rogue should use Mind Numbing Poison and make sure it's on at ALL times.

Assign one rogue to use double Wound Poison on Tidalvess (Shaman) as you DPS him down, as the "Poison Cleansing Totem" will remove them rapidly and you need to keep 5 charges up at all times just in case.

Assign your best paladin to heal the MT on Karathress. This may seem like a waste at the beginning but more then likely he's your best paladin for a reason and will be able to react to the abilities later on well.

Assign a good priest to the Caribdis (Priest) tank. It should be relatively easy to keep the rogue, the tank, and themselves up with Renew and a few heals and bubbles.

Assign 2 healers to the Sharkkis (Hunter) tank. Mostly just one is needed, but this is the tank that should be picking up the pet when it spawns and if it's the beast he will need some more heals.

Assign the remaining healers to heal the Tidalvess (Shaman) tank. At least 3-4 healers and a shadow priest in his group does help. Also an imp, Devotion Aura and possibly a shaman for Fire Resistance Totem, Grace of Air Totem, Stoneskin Totem, and Healing Stream Totem are recommended. Basically you want as much automatic healing and damage negation as possible on this tank.

Assign a couple (1-2) healers, mainly shamans, to heal the DPS taking damage from "Spitfire Totem" and "Multi Shot".

If your running low on healers (ie. only have 7- I suggest the following: out of the Sharkkis (Hunter) and Tidalvess (Shaman) healers, assign a couple, mainly shamans if possible, to heal the people getting hit by "Multi Shot" and "Spitfire Totem". Group close for Chain Heal to be the most effective and surprisingly Prayer of Mending is quite useful as well. These healers must be fast at reacting and know when to heal their tank and when to heal the DPS.

    Pull

Caribdis (Priest) is Misdirected by a hunter to a tank in the south west corner of the room.

Tidalvess (Shaman) is Misdirected, along with Sharkkis (Hunter), to a tank in the north east corner of the room (suggest rank one Multi Shot for the first shot, from there lay into the shaman for the last 2 Misdirect charges). When the hunter comes for the tank which was Misdirected a 4th tank tanks the hunter so it never hits the Tidalvess (Shaman)'s tank, this is very important as Sharkkis (Hunter) does little damage but the burst of Tidalvess (Shaman) added to the damage of Sharkkis (Hunter) can basically one round the Tidalvess (Shaman) tank.

The MT charges in, picking up Karathress and dragging him to the south east corner.

    The Fight

Make sure the tank tanking Tidalvess (Shaman) can hold his aggro well as you will need to burn this bad boy down fast. Kill the first "Spitfire Totem" as not only will it more then likely not be on top of where the Tidalvess (Shaman) is tanked it will also give the tank some time to build threat.

After the first "Spitfire Totem" is killed blow into Tidalvess (Shaman). Use Heroism, trinkets, flamecaps: whatever it takes to take him down as fast as possible. Due to the fact you're blowing into him, your paladins should also be on the ball for Blessing Of Protections.

After Tidalvess (Shaman) is killed kill Sharkkis (Hunter) next. From this point half the Tidalvess (Shaman) healers should assist in healing the paladin healing the Karathress tank (the paladin will start to take the "Spitfire Totem" damage) and the other half should assist in relieving the priest on the Caribdis (Priest) tank (by this time that priest is probably close to being out of mana). If the pet he summoned was a beast the tank who was tanking Tidalvess (Shaman) should Taunt it and tank it from then on out. If it's an elemental then just chain Banish it.

After Sharkkis (Hunter) is killed one of the healers should go and assist healing the tank on Karathress and the other healer should assist healing the two healers healing the tank on Karathress. From here you have 2 choices based upon one thing: if the Banish timer is about to expire you can kill the elemental so your warlock isn't stuck Banishing it. If it's a beast, kill it at this point. However if the timer for Banish is over say 10 seconds ignore it for now and go to town on Caribdis (Priest). Keep people up as there is a considerable amount of DPS going to the raid at this point.

After Caribdis (Priest) is killed you can either have the warlock chain Banish the pet if it's an elemental or you can wait for it and kill it, it doesn't have a lot of HP.

Regardless of what option you chose in the above step go to town on Karathress; by this time it's impossible to pull aggro from the tank.

You have several options on what to do at this point in the fight.

At this point he's gained the ability "Tidal Surge", "Spitfire Totem", and "The Beast Within". The only ones you really need to worry about is "The Beast Within" and "Spitfire Totem". The abilities have been listed above. However the basis of this part of the fight is the following: when Karathress turns red (gains "The Beast Within") you'll need to top the tank off faster. When Karathress lays down a "Spitfire Totem" you can choose to heal through it's possible ~11k DPS or you can kill it (only if your DPS is really good) every ~27 seconds. Keep in mind the "Spitfire Totem" has only 25k hp so if everyone is fast about it it won't get a shot off. One shot here and there can prove to be lethal but the chance of him "Shadow Bolting" the player who gets hit by the "Spitfire Totem" is 1 in 5.

Other then that, "it's all in the pull" and enjoy your free loots!

Good god, its not frikin stolen, he did not claim it was his in anyway at all. If he had said "This is a guide me and my buddys made up yesterday" then I would be flaming him right beside you, but he has instead brought a guide to our attention (A very nice one at that) and cited the source. GTFO.

Wait, why post this in mine only? I can give you LOTS of links to "stolen" guides. I came across it on the web, liked it, searched and posted.
