I just recently finished getting exalted with the Sons of Hodir and though
I'd put up a guide to help others in their grind or let people get a nice overview of what this faction has to offer.
Introduction
The Sons of Hodir (hereby refered to as SoH) is a faction that consists of frost giants.
They reside in the eastern part of Storm Peaks and the camp Dun Niffelem is their home.
SoH have many similarities with the Netherwing faction in TBC. They start out as hostile, and to be able to start gaining reputation with them you have to complete a questchain.
The chain starts out in Storm Peaks with the quest They Took Our Men! They Took Our Men! - Quest - World of Warcraft which is given by Gretchen Fizzlespark Gretchen Fizzlespark - NPC - World of Warcraft
in K3.
After the first chain of 16 quests you'll go to visit Thorim and some quests later he'll the quest Sibling Rivalry Sibling Rivalry - Quest - World of Warcraft.
While doing this you'll get an item which will start A spark of hope (A Spark of Hope - Quest - World of Warcraft). Take these quests and turn them in and you will be able to do quests for SoH.
Rewards
The Sons of Hodir - Faction - World of Warcraft
Most notable, and one of the main reasons to grind SoH rep, is the shoulder inscriptions which at exalted are the best ones available in the game
(except for Inscribers who gets better ones from thier profession).
Other nice rewards include the 22 slot bag pattern and the Ice Mammoth mounts. Please take note that the Grand Ice Mammoth is indeed a 3 person mount.
It costs 8000gold at exalted, but it has not got the vendors such as the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth.
How to gain reputation with SoH
Once you are neutral/friendly with the Sons of Hodir you will notice that you can pick up some quests in Dun Niffelem. After you completed the initial ones you will be able to recieve a few daily quests which will gain you some SoH reputation.
At honored you will get two more dailies and one more opens up at revered. This makes a total of 6 dailies to get you from exalted and they reward from 250-500rep each.
The quests are all quite easy to complete but here's a quick brief on what to do:
Map for reference: Maps - World of Warcraft
Hot and Cold
Go to the Frostfield lake (70,59) and kill Brittle Revenants until you have gathered 5 Essence of Ice. Then go to Fjords anvil and look for the small objects with smoke coming out of the top. Use the Essence of Ice when you are close and collect the item on the ground (until you have 5).
Rewards 250 reputation.
Blowing Hodir's Horn
Go to Thunderfall (72,4and kill 5 Niffelem Forefather and 5 Restless Frostborn. Use the questitem Hodir's Horn on the corpse after you have killed one to free it.
Rewards 250 reputation.
Polishing the Helm
Go into the Hibernal Cavern (55,63) and kill 5 Viscious Oils. Loot the questitem. It's a 100% drop so you will only have to kill five. The oils spawn very quickly so there should be no problem finding them.
Rewards 250 reputation.
When you reach honored these quests will open up (when you have completed the prequest)
Spy Hunter
Go to the Corpse of the Fallen Worg (56,64) which is close to the entrance of the Hibernal Cavern.
Use the Tooth questitem on the corpse and you'll spawn a wolf who will start chasing down your questmob.
After a while running around randomly he'll reveal a questmob and you can kill it. Repeat until you have got all three mobs.
Remember to protect your wolf when it's tracking since it'll get attacked by the hostile worms around the area.
Rewards 350 reputation.
Thrusting Hodrir's Spear
This one is a bit tricky at first but gets easier once you have done it a few times.
Go the the area west of Dun Niffelem and target one of the Wild Wyrms flying above you. Make sure you are at full health and use the quest item (Hodir's Spear) in your inventory when the dragon flies above you.
The dragon will get pulled down and you'll be picked up and fly along with it while trying to kill it. When you are on the dragon you will get new abilities and you cannot use your normal ones to kill it.
The abilities are:
Grabbing on - This adds 10 charges on your grip buff which prevents you from falling off. This buff will drop throughtout the whole fight and if you loose it you will fall off the dragon (and die if you haven't got slowfall/etc).
Dodge - This ability is used to dodge the Dragon's attacks against you. Everytime the dragon does an attack a yellow warning msg will appear, click the dodge ability in time and you will take no damage.
Thrust Spear - A weak dmg attack but with no cooldown, decreases your grip by 5 and dmges the wyrm for ~1200dmg.
Mighty spear thrust - A powerful attack which deals about 10k dmg but prevents you from doing any other action for 5 seconds. Decreases grip by 15.
The fight have a set timer before you'll automatically loose grip so you have to kill the dragon fast.
My tactic (which have worked just perfectly for me):
In the beginning I use Grab on to get some extra grip, then I use Mighty Spear Thrust and start mashing Thrust Spear.
I use Mighty Spear Thrust whenever it is off cooldown but I try to time it so that I use it after I have dodged a Claw attack from the dragon. Just remember to keep your grip high (I usually never drop below 40 just in case).
Spam dmg and remember to dodge when you can to make second phase easier.
After you have took the wyrm down to ~25% you will enter the second phase where you are lying in his mouth taking constant dmg. It ticks for around 600 a second (depends on gear) so having more hp left from phase one help a lot!
While in this phase you only have 2 abilities.
Open Jaws - You open the jaws of the wyrm and increases the change to hit with Fatal Strike by 5%. Stacks 20 times.
Fatal Strike - You throw Hodir's spear into the wyrm's mouth which instantly kills it. This has 0% chance to hit so you must use Open Jaws to complete the quest.
My tactic here is to just mash Open Jaws while checking my health bar. 90% of the time I can get 20 stacks, which is a guaranteed (100%) hit with Fatal Strike, before I die and I recommend you to put up 20 to remove the chance of missing, but once you see that you can't take anymore just use Fatal Strike and pray it doesn't miss.
When the dragon is dead I usually fall down around the Frostfield Lake area and you might aggro the revenants there so be prepared if you are low on hp.
This quest have also bugged sometimes for me (can't use abilities on dragon), but relogging have fixed that 100% of the time.
Rewards 500 reputation.
When you reach exalted you will open up the last daily quest after you have completed the prequest.
Feeding Arngrim
You must go to the area to the west of Niffelem and look for Roaming Jormungars. Use the questitem and start fighting the worm. At around 20% they'll become unattackable and Arngrim's spirit will come eat the worm. Reapeat til you have five.
Tip: You must be the target of the worm when it goes into unattackable state to get credit for it so pet classes make sure you aggro the worm before taking it to ~20%.
Rewards 350 reputation.
Those are all the daily quests that you can do to gain SoH rep. In addition you get some one-time extra rep for the prequests you do to be able to pick up the daily.
Everfrost Chips
The last way to gain reputation with Sons of Hodir is through gathering Everfrost Chips. This works exactly like the Netherwing eggs in TBC. You gather the chip from an object and turn them in for reputation via a repeatable quest in Dun Niffelem. Sounds easy eh? The tricky part is to find them.
The everfrost chips are very small and thin, making them quite hard to spot. They have a long (~45minutes) spawntime and only about 7 can be up at the same time. (all values are estimated after gathering data about them and may not be correct).
This is what an Everfrost Chip looks like:
The chips can only be found within a certain area of Storm Peaks.
This map shows what in area you should look for these chips: Map
The area is the same as for all the daily quests so you should be looking for these while doing your dailies. They can spawn in many various places but tend to be close to other objects such as trees and on top of mountain cliffs.
Now this is MMOwned so you are most likely wondering "Isn't there an easier way to find them?". The answer is: Yes, definetly!

(Huge creds to Mdss for this model edit! Rep him if you use it!)
To use this model edit you need WowME 3.0.3 by Kynox (Creds to him for the fix!)
http://www.mmowned.com/forums/bots-p...fix-kynox.html
Put the Wowme file in your wow directory and the model edit patch file (one of them) in the Data folder in your wow folder. Start wow with the WoWme.exe file and it should be working. Read all the readmes first as well.
I highly recommend the second one (the dark portal) if you wanna farm everfrost chips. What it does is change the Everfrost Chip model into a tiny version of The Dark Portal. This makes it incredibly easier to spot, but what's so great about it is the sound. Whenever there is a everfrost chip around you will here the loud sound of the portal (exactly the same as the one when you are close to the real portal) and you can easily follow the sound to find the chip. This way you don't even have to look for them, just put up "Sound" to a higher volume, lower music and ambient and fly around listening! This really helps if you wanna get SoH up fast.
Tips for farming Everfrost chips
Use the Patch-2 model edit above. Help a lot!
Farm at off-peak hours when none else is farming.
Use your flying mount and fly around in a circle along the mountainside of the marked area. Alot of the chips spawn quite high up on the mountains so make sure you check them out (but don't forget the ground level).
Relics of Ulduar
In patch 3.0.8 Blizzard introduced a new way to get reputation with Sons of Hodir.
You will be able to lend in 10 Relics of Ulduar (Relic of Ulduar - Item - World of Warcraft) for 250 reputation.
The relics will also become tradable so that you can buy them from the AH or other characters. This will make reputation grind with Sons of Hodir a lot easier and less painful since the relics are easy to grind. They drop from always all mobs in Storm Peaks with quite a high droprate.
That was it. I hope this guide helps. Creds to mdss, kynox and various wowhead guys for helping me on my way to exalted with Sons of Hodir!
