Guide for fast leveling
Thing's you should have before you start.
1. Fishing pole
2. Only One Shiny Bauble
Why? Cause i think you don't need anymore, cause ...wtf, see later in the guide, and just listen to me ;D
Optional: Buy the book "Master Fishing - The Art of Angling" from Juno Duffrain in Cenarion Refuge, Zangarmarsh (or via auction). Below level 45, skip this (and train in Northrend when required).
Step 2
Learn Apprentice Fishing from any fishing trainer in Old Azeroth (not Northrend). You will find trainers in all major cities (ask a guard) and most starting areas.
Travel to a starting area. Ideally as close to Dustwallow Marsh as possible: For Horde, try Durotar or perhaps Mulgore. No Alliance starting zones are particularly close - consider Dun Morogh or Teldrassil. Remember, starting zones do not include capital cities.
Apply a Shiny Bauble lure once and fish until your skill reaches 75. Why only one lure? Once your skill reaches 25 you will be able to fish here without fish getting away. After 10 minutes your skill will be over 25.
At skill 75, travel to the nearest capital city, such as Ironforge or Orgrimmar. Train Journeyman Fishing. (Alternatively train Journeyman in the starting zone and then remain there until skill 225.)
Now fish in the capital city. Between skill 125 and 150, read the book "Expert Fishing - The Bass and You". Continue fishing until skill 225.
At skill 225, travel to Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh, and take the Artisan fishing quest, "Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme". The quest requires you to catch 4 quest-only fish. For full details, read the Artisan Fishing Quest walkthrough. The quest is required to advance past 225.
Fish in Dustwallow Marsh until between skill 350 and 375. You may wish to move to be close to a vendor so you can sell the fish you catch. For most level 70s, the vendor value of these fish is not worth the effort - just throw your catches back into the water when you run out of bag space ((destroy the fish)). Between fishing skill 275 and 300, read the book "Master Fishing - The Art of Angling".
Alternatively, travel to Northrend between skill 275 and 300 and learn Master rank from a Northrend fishing trainer (see next stage).
Between skill 350 and 375 travel to Northrend and train Grand Master rank from any fishing trainer in Northrend. A list is available - this requires Wrath of the Lich King. For Horde, fly to Orgrimmar, and take the zeppelin to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra. Alliance should take the boat to Menethil Harbor in Wetlands, then another boat to Valgarde in Howling Fjord.
Return to Azeroth and fish until skill 450. Fish anywhere fish do not get away. For Horde, the closest location is Orgrimmar. For Alliance, Wetlands.
And now are we here for the slower part, but you get much more gold .
For your first catches, the method is similar the fast approach:
Buy books:
"Expert Fishing - The Bass and You" from Old Man Heming in Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale (or via auction). (Alternatively, if you follow the pool fishing alternative between skill 75 and 300, you can buy the book when you start fishing in Stranglethorn Vale.)
Optional: "Master Fishing - The Art of Angling" from Juno Duffrain in Cenarion Refuge, Zangarmarsh (or via auction). (Alternatively, you can buy this book once your skill reaches 300, when this guide recommends you travel to Outland to fish. Or travel to Northrend and train Master rank from trainers there.)
Obtain the best fishing pole you can. A pole with a +20 or +25 bonus is recommended once fishing in Northrend. Horde should complete the quest "Snapjaws, Mon!" for the +25 Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000. The quest "Rather Be Fishin'" gives a +20 Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole, or you can search for a Big Iron Fishing Pole.
Obtain at least some +100 lures for your first casts in Northrend. If only +75 lures can be found, wait until skill 375 before fishing in Northrend.
Learn Apprentice Fishing from any fishing trainer in Old Azeroth (not Northrend). You will find trainers in all major cities (ask a guard) and most starting areas.
Travel to a starting area. For example, Durotar or Dun Morogh. Remember, starting zones do not include capital cities.
If you are using a basic pole, apply a Shiny Bauble lure once and fish until your skill reaches 75. Why only one lure? Once your effective skill reaches 25 you will be able to fish here without fish getting away. After 10 minutes your skill will be over 25.
At personal fishing skill 75, travel to the nearest capital city, such as Ironforge or Orgrimmar. Train Journeyman Fishing.
75-355
Travel to The Barrens to catch Deviate Fish. At 75 skill you will be able to fish in The Barrens or The Wailing Caverns without fish getting away, so no lures are required, even with poor gear.
There are two different methods:
30% will be Deviate Fish. This method is faster than pool fishing, since no time is spent moving. Anglers can also hide from others by fishing in The Wailing Caverns, so may be useful for Alliance where the factions are at war (The Barrens is Horde territory). You will catch fewer valuable fish than pool fishing.
Pool fishing in the oases of The Barrens: Fish from School of Deviate Fish. About 80% of the catch will be Deviate Fish. You will need to continually move between pools, so you will spend about twice as much time leveling as open water fishing. But you will catch far more valuable fish.
The best approach is partly decided by personal preference (standing still or moving about), and partly by the difference in auction house prices of Deviates and alternatives .
