First of all this is a comprehensive guide for fishing in World of Warcraft. I (pewpewlazerz of mmowned) wrote this myself.
1. Leveling
- First of alll when it comes to leveling fishing it doesn't matter which fish you catch. Any catch will help you help you skill up. It starts to take more catches per level but all fish are equal.
- Second, using a fishing bot is the only sane way to level up from 1-450
There are many bots out there that you can use, but I personally recommend Mr Fish It. It was released by a member of MMOWNED by the name of Nesox
http://www.mmowned.com/forums/bots-p...sh-v1-0-a.html
Now that you have a bot to do get this done you will need to get your skill. You can get this in many places, but I would suggest getting it in Stormwind/Orgrimar because this is where you will do your leveling from 1-225.
You should also go buy the book, The Bass and You. It is what allows you to get Expert Fishing. You can either find this in the Auction House or you can buy it in Booty Bay from Old Man Heming. He is at the bottom of the docks at 27,77.
Now set up your bot and watch it fish until it gets to 75. Then talk to the trainer to get your next level in fishing. Keep fishing here until you hit 125 and read the book, The Bass and You. You can now either continue to fish here for easy fish or goto Wailing Caverns and fish for Deviate Fish.
-Deviate Fish can be cooked into Savory Deviate Delight and sold over the Auction House.
You can either trash the fish you catch, or you can go get your cooking skill and use the fish to level up your cooking. I wont go into the cooking skill though as it is about as complicated as the fishing.
Once you hit level 225 you will not be able to level any higher unless you do a Quest from Nat Pagle who is in Dustwallow Marsh. He is on an island at 59,60.
Nat Pagle - NPC - World of Warcraft that is a map that shows you where he is.
The quest he will give you will require you to catch 4 fish, and unfortunately it is kinda pointless to use your fishing bot for this.
- The first fish you will need to catch is the Feralis Ahi.
Fly from Dustwallow Marsh to Feralis and follow the main road through Feralis to the Verdantis River which is South East of Dire Maul. The road goes right over it. Coordinates are about 63,51. Put a lure on your pole and keep fishing until you catch one. It may take a while- The second fish is going to be the Sar'theris Striker in Desolace.
Fly from Feralis to Desolace and go fish on the coast. These fish are only caught on the Sar'theris strand. So basically fish on the coast next to Shadowprey Village. You can catch them on any part of the coast that doesn't have mountains behind it.- The third fish you need to catch will be the Savage Coast Blue Sailfin in Stranglethorn Vale.
You should either fly to Orgrimmar and take the Zeplin to Grom'gol Base camp in STV or goto Stormwind and fly to Booty Bay. I would suggest fishing outside of Grom'gol or anywhere on the norther part of the Savage Coast. People have reported catching the fish outside of Booty Bay on the coast, but I tried and it took forever so I just went outside Grom'gol and caught it in about 5 minutes.- The last fish you need to catch is the Misty Reed Mahi Mahi in the Swamp of Sorrows.
Fly to Stonard and goto the Coast and fish along the coast. It shouldnt take that long and once you catch it you are done. Just go back to Nat Pagle and turn in the Quest.- Now that you are artisan fishing you can go back to fishing in Stormwind/Orgrimar. I would suggest buying the book, The Art of Angling. Either get it from the Auction House or you can go buy it from Juno Dufrain at 78,66 in Zangarmarsh.
Fish until you hit 275 and then read the book, The Art of Angling. You can probably now fish in Northrend, but I would just leave the bot on in Stormwind/Orgrimar/Wailing Caverns and let it fish you up to max level. If you are afraid of being reported Wailing Caverns is the best place to fish because you will be inside and instance that noone can see you in. To get to 350 will take a while so fishing in WC is a safe bet and can also bring you alot of gold if you know how to cook Savory Deviate Delight.
Wailing Caverns Fishing!
Fishing here is easy. Just goto the river thing that has the non elite crocolisks in it and go around and kill all the crocolisks. Then goto the right from where you first entered the river and walk until you see a little pool on the left. This is the pool you jump in after killing the big tree looking boss. Set your bot up and let it fish here.
To maximize the amount of Deviate Fish you catch and not junk fish you should wait until you get about a stack of Deviate fish then seperate the fish so that you have 1 fish per slot. That way the bags will fill up and you will have atleast 20 stacks of Deviate fish by the end.
Ok, now once you hit 350 you can goto any fishing trainer in Northrend and he will teach you your Grand Master Skill. The easiest person to find is the one in Dalaran by the fountain on the prison side of the city.
Getting from 350 to 450 will take your bot about 10 hours of fishing, so leave it on over night in WC or a city and let the bot do its thing. In a few days of botting you should have Maxxed your fishing to where you can fish anywhere!!
2. Gold
Cooking
The number 1 way to make gold with fishing is by cooking the fish you catch into a food tha twill buff your stats up.
- Fish- Bonescale Snapper
Buff- +40 hit rating, + 40 Stamina
Where to catch- These fish can be caught in almost any lakes inside Northrend besides Dalran and Sholazar Basin. Go find a nice lake and basically do the same thing as I said to do in WC. Catch about 20 then seperate them into individual stacks and goto sleep.- Fish- Darkwater Clams
Buff- +60 Attack Power, +35 Spell Power, +30 Stamina
Where to catch- These fish can be caught almost anywhere on the coast. It is a rarer catch, but basically go set up on the beach and see what you catch.- Fish- Dragonfin Anglefish
Buff- +40 Agility or Strength, +40 Stamina
Where to catch- The best way to catch these is to goto Dragonblight and look for pools of them. This isn't a fish to bot for.- Fish- Fangtooth Herring
Buff- +12/16 MP5, +40 stamina
Where to catch- These fish are also found in pools in the inland lakes of Howling Forge. If you want to catch these go run around the large lakes north of the zone.- Fish- Glacial Salmon
Buff- 35/46 Spellpower, +40 Stamina
Where to fish- These pools are found in the inland waters of Grizzly Hills- Fish- Imperial Manta Ray
Buff- +30/40 Hast Rating, +40 Stamina
Where to fish- These pools can be found in any southern zone of northrend.- Fish- Moonglow Cuttlefish
Buff-+40 Spirit, +40 Stamina
Where to fish- To catch these fish you will need to fish the icey waters south east of the borean tundra. You will need to fly around and jump on the ice to fish the pools. This is a more difficult fish to catch.- Fish- Mussleback Sculpin
Buff-+60/80 Attack Power, +40 Stamina
Where to fish- Run round Lake Kum'uya (north-east of Warsong Hold) and look for pools. There are random pools in smaller lakes, but this is more efficient.- Fish- Nettlefish
Buff- +30/40 Critical Rating, +40 Stamina
Where to fish- Goto Sholari Basin and follow the rivers looking for pools.
The best way to make gold with these is to look up which one sells for the most on your server and fish them.
Fishing in Dalaran!
Once you have maxed fishing you can fish in Dalaran without having fish get away. You actually need to have a 525 skill to stop them from getting away so get some lures and the best pole you have to fish efficiently here.
There are alot of ways to make money here.
1. The sewers.
Set up a bot and fish in the sewers for a few things. You have the possibility to catch 3 things here. Carp(crap), Magic Eater(a fish that gives you random buffs and can turn you into random things that are pretty cool), and a Giant Sewer Rat mini pet. You will also probably catch a few random things like dead rats and an occasional pot that will either make everyone in dalaran look like they have wizard robes on or turn you into a wasp.
2. Outside Violet Hold
In this little area of water you have a chance to make a fair amount of gold. I wouldnt really recommend botting here though because it has a high amount of traffic. You can catch slippery eel that can give a +dodge rating buff so its good to sell in AH for tanks that need +dodge.
You can also catch random trash items such as a prison shank that will sell for a few gold.
The main thing you want to catch here though are rusty keys. If you get a rusted key you can go into one of the prison cells in the water that has been broken out of and there is a chest. That chest will give you some level 80 blues that sell for a decent amount on auction house (depending on your server of course)
3. Eventide Fountain
This is the fountain where you learned to fish in northrend. This fountain is where everyone throws coins to make wishes. If you fish here you will catch gold fish or random coins that have insrcriptions on them. These coins can be sold back to vendors. If you get a gold coin you can use it and it gives you a buff that helps you catch more coins.
There are 4 achievements that you can get here. There is one for catching all the copper coins, all the silver coins, and all the gold coins. Once you have completed all 3 of those you get another one for catching every type of coin. When you get that 4th achievement you also receive a coin in which you can flip.

Achievements/Title
The fishing skill opens up a chance for you to get the title "Salty" This title is pretty hard to get and it shows that you are THE Master Angler.
To get this achievement there are 2 things that you need to start working on ASAP because it will probably be the hardest.
1. Win the Stranglethorn Extravaganze. This is difficult because you can only do it on Sundays from 2-4 server time. You have to catch 40 speckled tasty fish and turn them into the the contest guy before anyone else to win. I would set your hearthstone to booty bay and do some research to find the best fishing route.
2. Try to catch as many Mr. Pinchy's you can find. They are a rare drop from the Highland Mixed Schools in the elevated lakes outside of shat. You can only have one wish granted every 2 days and its a low chance that one of those wishes will give you the Mr. Pinchy mini pet. So you need to be working on your wishes ASAP.
-Another achievement that you need to get that is also hard to do is to get all 5 fishing quests done. The guy outside shat gives random quests, but getting all 5 is kinda hard because they are random and it can be difficult to get all 5 in a timely manner.
-One of the other harder achievements is "The one that didn't get away" to get this one I would suggest setting up a bot in open water in beginner areas and go for the 15 pound mud fish. These rare fish are extremely hard to catch, but doing it in the beginner zone maximizes your chance of catching the rare fish because you don't have to deal with people trying to kill you (PVP SERVERS)
- Achievements and Pools
There are a lot of fishing achievements that involve pools. The first one I would recommend trying to do is "Fish Leave no Footsteps" This is the one where you find the book that teaches you how to see fish on your mini map. If you get this it will greatly help you in other fishing achievements.
One achievement says you will need to fish in a node.
There is also one for fishing nodes in Outlands.
- Brackfish > Zangarmarsh
- Bluefish > Nagrand
- Mudfish > Nagrand
- Darter > Rivers in Terrokar Forrest
- Highland Mixed > On the mountains of Terrokar Forrest
- Sporefish > Zangarmarsh
Try and get the find fish ability that way you can just fly around and look for the school and fish from it.
There is one for Northrend as well
- Borean Man O War > Coast of Borean Tundra
- Deep Sea Monster Belly > Deep water southeast of borean. Jump on the ice
- Dragonfin Anglefish > Dragonblight
- Fangtooth Herring > Howling Fjord
- Glacial Salmon > Grizzly Hills
- Glassfin Minnow > River that runs through Western Crystalsong Forest
- Imperial Manta Ray > Found almost on any coast of northrend
- Moonglow Cuttlefish > Deep water southeast of Borean. Jump on the ice
- Mussleback Sculpin > Inland waters of Borean Tundra
- Nettlefish School > Sholazar Basin
The other pool achievement is kinda rough to accomplish because it involves junk pools, which are random and kinda rare.
- Steam Pump Flotsam > Zangarmarsh
- Floating Wreckage > Azshara, Feralas, Tanaris
- Bloodsail Wreckage > Coastal waters of STV
- Schooner Wreckage > Ashenvale, Hillsbrad Foothills, Stonetalon Mountains, Wetlands
- Waterlogged Wreckage > STV, Alterac, Arathi, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh
The last few achievements that you need are:
- The coin master (we've already talked about this one) You have to fish all types of copper, silver, and gold coins from the fountain.
- The Deadliest Cathch- You and some friends need to goto Zul'Grub and fish up Gahz'ranka
The Deadliest Catch - El's Extreme Anglin' - WoW Fishing Guide thats a good and easy guide for this achievement- The Lurker Above- You need to go fish up Lurker from SSC, I suggest getting either a small raid to do the instance or get a dk/shaman to give you water walking and run to the spot where you fish him out.
If you have done all of these you should have caught the 1,000 fish for the last achievement and obtained the title salty, as well as a few other things including a Mr Pinchy Pet, probably a baby crocodile pet from the fishing dailies, a coin that you can flip for heads or tails, either a hook that turns you into a fish or a nice fishing pole from STV Extravaganza, and some very good fishing memories.
