If you had the quest Pre 3.0.2 you can get the title, same applies for Hand of A'dal. The the Pre and Post-patch quests are different quest IDs so that's why some people have gotten it after the patch.

I managed to do Magtheridon 30 minutes before the servers went down on patch day (After several server crashes) and got my Champ title.
Guess how suprised i was when i got my Hand of A'dal title after we did Kael'thas the day after the patch
