Welcome to my auction house domination guide! I’m not going to get into a story, so lets get right to it. Firstly, download auctioneer from auctioneeraddon.com. Download the advanced suite, and place all the files in World of Warcraft/Interface /Addons. Now, your ready to go. You can follow this guide at any level, but it is recommended you have a 70, or at least a higher level, to fund your beginnings of this. Now, make an alt on the server you want to make your gold on, if you are horde make an undead and take the road right to undercity, if you are alliance make a human and run directly to stormwind. A tip on making your banking character is to use a normal name, don’t name it “Moneybags” or “<Yournamehere>Bank” just make it a normal character name. Now, on your main, send your bank some gold to get started with, say, 100g, and all of the items you want to sell. Lastly, you want to get some netherweave bags. Go into the auction house and you will see an entirely new and probably confusing interface. Click the little arrow on the upper left side of the screen that looks like a play button. Do not click anything until it is complete, it will give you a message when it is done. What this is doing is collecting data on what items are worth on your server, and keeping it. You are to do this scan 2 times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, maybe once in the afternoon if you feel like it, for a whole week. After that week, keep scanning, at least once a day. What this is doing is getting an average price for every item. You can’t look at an item on the auction house only once and know for a fact that is what it is worth.
The items we will be looking at for making money are (In order of importance) metals, primals/motes, gems, cloth, leather, and herbs. For me, my first money maker was mithril and thorium, so I suggest you go to the trade goods tab and click on metals, then search for thorium ore, thorium bar, mithril ore, and mithril bar. For every search, grab every item in the price range of 0% - 60%, these are the ones you can resell for a large profit. You can also look for adamantite, but you usually won’t find much of a deal because it is a high level ore, and players know the prices of them at that time. So now you should have a small to medium supply of metals, You can either keep these or resell them right away. I recommend you keep them. Next we will be looking at primals and motes. The first thing you want to automatically check for every type of mote and primal is, is the price of 10 motes cheaper than 1 primal? If so, buy them out. Lets say a primal is up for 10 gold, buy every mote that is cheaper than 1g, once they hit 1g, you start neither making or losing profits, your just converting and selling for the price you bought it for, which isn’t much use at all. Next thing you want to do with them is check the primals themselves, if they are in the price range of 0% - 60% of their worth, buy them. I recommend you keep this just like the metal as well. Next items we will be looking at are cloths. The real moneymaker, not a fast one, but the most reliable one is wool cloth. Prices have shot up and they are worth the most now than ever. On my server I can sell a stack of wool cloth for about 4g in about 10 minutes after putting it up. It has a short supply and a huge demand, so buy out all the wool cloth from 0% - 75% and resell them right away, they will sell fast. Next items on the cloth market are silk/runecloth /mageweave. They are good moneymakers, and you should buy and sell the ones in the price range of 0% - 60% and resell them. They won’t sell as quickly, but they will sell.
This next section is all about the neutral auction house. If you can, make an alt and get summoned to booty bay, and go directly to the neutral auction house. The great part about this place is that the auction house is right next to the bank, mailbox, and guild bank. What we will be mainly looking at here are small pets. With the release of 3.0, achievements were implemented; therefore the price of cross-faction small pet trading skyrocketed. On a good day, I can sell a cockroach for 20 gold! What I want you to do with this information is buy vendor pets that are unavailable to the other faction and put It up in the range of 10-20 gold. There are three types of collectors. One is the kind that just gets a pet or two to follow them around, the other is the one trying to get the achievement, and the last one is the one who is the hardcore collector wanting to get them all. What is cooler than seeing a huge orc warrior with flaming serrated blades and gear with huge blades protruding from the armor everywhere you look only to see a cute little kitten prancing around behind it. I’d say that’s worth 20 gold!
Next we will be looking at gems a little closer, the only real thing I have to say that hasn’t already been said is, if the gem is worth more when cut into a specific way, buy it. Remember to add what you consider a good tip to get it cut.
The next thing we will be looking at Is only if you have a couple hundred gold and you are willing to invest. Go to the auction house, and leave the search tab BLANK. Then click search. Make it show all the items from most expensive to cheapest, and slowly scroll down. You will find items that people put up for large buyouts, what they are worth, and bids at only 2g or so. Bid on the item and hope nobody else does, sometimes you can get into a mad bidding spree and end up spending hundreds of gold. Use at your own risk.
This section is about the darkmoon faire. First, we will look at cards. Cards from BC are selling very well, and you should really take a look at them. Go to the quests tab and search for “Ace of” and search through every number up to eight. (Ace of, two of, three of, etc..) and look for the ones with a high buyout and low bid, and bid on them. They are not in large demand, so you will rarely get outbidded. The main cards you want are the Ace of <Anything>. You want the blue cards, disregard the white ones. The aces are usually worth large amounts of money. Now, when darkmoon faire comes to town, there will be an exotic goods vendor. I want you to camp in front of them, because they sell herbs that are worth huge amounts on the auction house for very cheap, and they are limited supply to everyone. If you aren’t the first to pick them up when she gets them, someone else will incredibly fast.
Next, we will look at some of the worst mistakes you can make on the auction house. #1. Undercutting by too much. If an item is up for 10 gold, don’t try to sell it for 5, you lose profits. Only undercut my a max amount of 1 gold, maybe 2. #2. Buying and selling weapons and armor. Never do this, unless it is twink items. There is never a demand for a specific item, therefore there is no saying it will sell or not. You can sell what you already have, but don’t base your markets, or even a part of it, on this. #3. Undercutting by too little. If a competition is selling an item for 10g, don’t be a jerk and sell it for 9g 99s 99c, it’s just a jerk move. That person loses their original deposit and has to post it again. It isn’t much, but it is enough to piss off people. #4. Posting too much of an item. An item may be rare, and you may have a lot of it, but posting more than one of a rare item can make it not sell, because it makes it look easy to get. Even with items like wool, don’t put up more than 5 stacks at a time, it just floods the market. #5. Using a 12 or 48 hour timer. Usually a 12 hour timer is much to little for most items, and with 48 hours, if someone undercuts you, you need to take it down and put up a better price, and 48 hours have a large deposit.
That’s all for now! Any updates will be added right here. If you remove what I add at the bottom and post somewhere else, I will remove this and stop updating.
