The patch is likely coming sometime soon, so now's the time to cash in on cheap items that will be big money makers on patch day, and save BIG time on enchanting your newly dinged 70's (or alt's) gear. I did a search and didn't find anything regarding these tips, so I thought I'd share them.
OMG WALL OF TEXT!?!!
-->scroll to the bottom (or do a find for 'TLDR version').
1.a) Casters - Primal Life prices are very low (at least on my server) and are running at most 12g each, but going as low as 4g (hurray for tons of herbalists). So what's the big deal? Well, in 3.0 the glove enchants (healing and spellpower) will be changed into the new 'spellpower' stat. Healing will give 19 spellpower instead of the old +healing; a mere -1 difference to the +20 spelldamage enchant. So for a near equivalent enchant (6 primal life vs 6 primal mana), you save anywhere from 16-25g PER primal (depending on the economy) on those new gloves. For a main, not a big deal, but when you have 3-4 alts that you want enchanted gear on, this can be as much as 150g saved on ONE slot.
1.b) More casters - Bracer enchants are an even BIGGER bargain. To those unaware, the +healing enchant for bracers for healing classes is MUCH cheaper than +spelldmg for dps classes:
Healing - 4 Greater Planar Essences, 4 Primal Life
Spellpower - 6 Large Prismatic Shards, 6 Primal Fire, 6 Primal Mana
With the above already mentioned on cheap primal life, it is DEFINITELY worth picking up +healing on bracers for anyone enchanting casters alts on a budget. It requires less than half of the primals of the spellpower. For the interim, you're giving up +5 dmg, and getting it on patch day at no additional cost. An example based on my server's economy:
Healing (80g) = 4GPE (48g at 12g each) + 4Life (32g at 8g average each)
Spellpower (384g) = 6LPS (90g at 15g each) + 6Fire (150g at 25g each) + 6Mana (144g at 24g each)
That's 300g for one more enchant; combined with above, you've just saved yourself 450g on one character.
"If I farm my own mats, I save nothing" - Don't bother farming life unless the demand on your server is bigger than the supply. You can farm primal fire/mana/water and sell them, using the profit to pickup the cheaper stuff. Sure you don't save any time, but you come out with more gold in your pocket than buying the more (currently) beneficial enchants.
1.c) Even more casters! - If you plan on eventually putting a thread on your dps caster's pants somewhere down the road, save big again by picking up a cheaper one. Most servers have several tailors that have hit exalted with Aldor and can craft the golden spellthread. With primal life prices dropping, pickup 10 (or 5 if you're going with the blue thread) of them and pay less than picking up the same number of primal mana (8g on average for life vs. 24g on average for mana on our server). Find a crafter in town (usually doesn't take long with /2 Trade) and trade over your primals + thread (+ nether). If you're lucky, they won't even ask for a tip (I usually charge 10g, but with the number of tailors exalted with Aldor/Scryer, sometimes it's hard to get even 5).
Golden - 22 spell dmg (now); 35 spellpower (patch day)
Cost: 10Life (80g at 8g each) + 1 Primal Nether (30g) + 1 Rune Thread (12.5s) = ~110g
Spellthread - 35 spell dmg (now); 35 spellpower (patch day)
Cost: 10Mana (240g at 24g each) + 1 Primal Nether (30g) + 1 Rune Thread (12.5s) = ~270g
Again, less than half the cost, and you're not even likely to miss that 13 spell power in the mean time
1.d) Healers - Got a shiny new weapon that you need a healing enchant on? Save again by picking up Major Spellpower on it rather than the much more expensive (economy depending) Major Healing:
Healing - 8 Large Prismatic Shards, 8 Primal Water, 8 Primal Life
Cost: 8LPS (120g at 15g each) + 8Water (200g at 25g each) + 8Life (64g at 8g each) = 384g
Spellpower - 8 Large Prismatic Shards, 8 Greater Planar Essence
Cost: 8LPS (120g at 15g each) + 8GPE (80g at 10g each) = 200g
Nowhere near as cost-saving as for dps classes, but this is still a nice chunk of change to keep (184g!) for other endeavors, or even another alt.
2) Tailors - Again, with primal life dropping through the floor, pick some up and craft some Golden/Silver Spellthread if you have learned it (or find a crafter) for cheap. Come patch day, throw them up on the AH slightly below the cost (I usually undercut 5g or so) of Runic/Mystic Spellthread. There are bound to be at least a few people that pickup the cheaper thread that day since now you're not only selling to the healing market, but the WHOLE caster dps market. With the new schmexy changes and additional talents for Balance (Druid), Priests (Shadow), Warlocks (Destruction), etc...at least a few people are gonna bust out some old alts that have collected dust and have had enchants neglected. Also on the plus side: it's arena point day; I always sell at least one thread a week since season 4 started as there's a few people that hit the rating requirement and finally get their s4 pants.
3) Farmers/Auctioneers - With Golden Spellthread/Runic Spellthread giving casters the same stats on patch day, primal life demand is going to go up as casters wanting new leg enchants will pickup the cheaper mats. This is another nice opportunity to cash in. Every major patch (and I mean EVERY patch), the AH eventually runs dry as everyone experiments with new gear/talents/changes/etc and nobody takes time to go out and farm. Stock up on a few extra primal life now while the price is cheap, and sell them in batches of 5 on the AH the night before the patch goes live. You may not sell it by the time you get home from work/school, but that stuff goes eventually, even if you overprice it!
4.a) Enchanters - Patch day = tip day! If you're lucky enough to not be working/in class, login your enchanter and park them in IF/Org. All those top ranked arena teams/raiders are gonna be fixing at least one enchant: Enchant Bracer - Superior Healing. It may just be the Bloodlust battlegroup, but these are the players that MUST have the ABSOLUTE BEST enchants, items and gems in all slots. +1 spellpower may seem negligible to you, but there are going to be at least a few players that need that enchant right now, and they won't wait for guildies to come online and do it for free. I'm lucky to have no classes during Tuesday mornings, so I enchant new arena point purchases every week with pretty much ZERO competition. What does that mean for me? I get to demand the tipping price:
"How much?" - player asking for ___ enchant
"12g" - my reply on maintenance days
"40g" - my reply for rare enchants on maintenance days
Yes, some players are THAT impatient. I think my best Tuesday I pulled in about 200g by noon.
4.b) Enchanters/Auctioneers - stock up on Greater Planar Essence while they're still cheap now. With almost all caster enchants requiring GPE, demand is gonna peak on patch day, and the supply is gonna dry up FAST. Throw up a bunch at ridiculous prices the night before. You'll sell at least half of them, even if it's at double the current cost. More people than you think have very deep pockets these days, and tossing down 80g on 4 GPE for a new enchant is nothing.
====================
TLDR Version:
1.a) DPS casters: save gold by getting Healing enchant on gloves; it's cheaper, and won't be much different than spellpower on patch day (-1 difference)
1.b) DPS casters: save gold by getting Healing enchant on bracers; it's cheaper, and gives the EXACT same stats as spellpower on patch day
1.c) DPS casters: save gold by buying cheaper primals (life instead of mana) and getting a healing leg enchant (spellthread) instead of spellpower. They will have the same stats on patch day.
1.d) Healers: save gold by picking up a spellpower enchant on your new weapon instead of major healing. Same stats on patch day.
2) Tailors: pickup cheap primal life and craft/sell golden spellthread on patch day, or find a tailor to craft one for you. They are cheaper to craft than runic spellthread.
3) Farmers/AH: stock up on primal life/mana for threads/enchants while price is low; sell them at big markups on patch day.
4.a) Enchanters: if you can be one of the few enchanters online during the early hours of the patch, cash in BIG on tips. Hardcore players will be looking to replace enchants on at least the bracer slot, and Tuesdays are generally a good day to park your enchanter in IF/Org.
4.b) Enchanters/Auctioneers: stock up on Greater Planar Essence while they're still cheap, demand is going to be high on patch day, so you can sell at a nice markup.
