Ok, first off, AoE grinding is NOT the fastest way to level. I just do it when i'm bored and want to rape shit on my mage... The fastest way to level would probably be questing IMO...
This does however bring in a lot of cash, depending on where you farm... I've found a bunch of BoE blues that have all sold for 150g or more
This guide will teach you a basic frost build AoE grinding technique
Step 1 - Talent Spec
You will want to have all your talents into frost (obviously), but there are some things that would seem good, but aren't. For instance, you don't want shatter, because blizzard NEVER crits.....
Here's a spec that you probably would use - WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Mage -> Talent Calculator
Step 2 - Gear
You want to have a lot of intellect (obviously) as well as spirit/stamina
While you are still fairly new to AoE grinding, you will want to get int/stam gear as you will probably stay alive a lot more because you have more hp...
As you get more advanced with AoE grinding, you might want more int/spirit oriented gear
Step 3 - Locations
You want to stay away from any mobs that have any form of ranged attacks, because they will be the ones that get you killed every time...
Post lvl 40, I grinded around the wastewander bandits in tanaris, just watch out for the casters as they are a real pain in the ass
Thanks to Hyourin - at 22/25 try gnolls in south wetlands - can be hard without few talents, but doable, i would rather just quest till 26 or so
25-28 - ghouls at raven hill as video shows- no ranged there, only melee
28-33 - worgens south of Darkshire - very fast respawn, easy to kill, and can be skinned=profit
33-36 - orcs at that field in Arathi (forgot name -_-) - only for alliance tho, friendly for hordies
36-40 - murlocs in norther dustwallow marsh
44-51 - pirates at Tanaris
51-55 - Sorrow Hill, undeads grinding - thats like BEST spot ever
55-58/60 - undeads in WPL on the fields, there's 1 field with only melee, there are few mages in there, but u can avoid them, or just grind on sorrow hill - less exp, but they will give it all the way to 58
Step 4 - Technique
This is the simplest technique for AoE grinding. It's extremely safe, and probably the best way to start out.
- Buff up w/ AI and MA, i wouldn't use frost armor cause it can really screw your pulls up
- Use Ice Barrier as well as Mana Shield (if you have enough mana)
- Get up on your mount and collect all your mobs
- (Begnners) - use Ice Block and let the mobs collect, then dispell/cast Frost Nova and immediately cast blink to get far away from the mobs
- Turn around, and cast blizzard around all the mobs
- Once your blizzard starts to run out, cast it again right infront of the group of mobs
- Use Cone of Cold (if your CD on nova isn't up) and Frost Nova the mobs, and once again, immediately blink away
Repeat this process until the mobs are dead. If any mobs resist your frost nova, you should use Cold Snap and re-nova ASAP and then blink...
Feel free to tell me about anything I may have made unclear or even if you have anything to add
