Okay, I found a spot to do the not-so-freindly skies quest that uses melee,
there is a floating island/rock at 71,75. You stand facing north you will see transporter approach ( about 30 to 45 degree angle up) then pass thru and across the rock near the east end. This gives you a few sec to engage in combat. They did not glitch once on me(and i killed a lot). There are 2 on this flight path and their spawn rate will give u just enough time to heal if u get hit hard.
There is a third transporter that flies over the rock but had too many glitches for me.
