Tips to Mage in Arena !

    Hi guys
I'm just gonna put some tips here about playing a mage in Arena.
    Hoping it helps someone ^^

    1. Going in invisible does not always help!
Matter of fact, there's many ways this can go wrong.
Let's say you get a stealther team, Your out there unmounted and vulnerable.
If it's a warlock team, they'll see you, and once again, your unmounted and you'll be dotted faster than you can ask your teammate to help.

    2. Always communicate. Any team with a mage, this is probably the most important, as the burst needs to be timed correctly and the CCs and counterspell also used correctly.
Have your teammate call out if they think they can kill the other player, so you can put a counterspell on the healer.
Also, remember to spam sheep like hell . Any seconds that the other player cannot attack is extremely valuable.

    3. Don't burst your Icey Veins and Water Elemental as soon as you see someone. Always have a little patience, and wait till your sure they won't run and LoS you.

    4. Speccing. I reccomend 17/0/44. Some people like PoM, but it really doesn't work well in arena.

    5. Shatter crits. The timing is incredibly important, I always wait till their around 30-50% until I use it. And usually right after, counterspell the healer ^^

    6. Your teammate needs to engage in combat extremely fast, otherwise you'll be nuked down >< . Your matches should not last forever, but they have in some cases, be smart about mana.
Arcane Explosion spamming is just not smart at all, unless your absolutely sure they will die.

I'm a frost mage, and I usually play around 1600-1700 or higher.

I have trouble believing the latter of the posts due to the huge amount of Crit mitigation found at that level of play.

I have a 2058 rated team - Mage / Rogue and this guide seems very good, although mages have high survivability so the point you made about getting nuked down isn't really valid.

Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail.

As a resto druid playing around 2050 mage rogue teams with fire mages I encounter are really tough, they always play well together and time their burst really well, then when I'm scorched up I get kidney pyro CS the works. It's a bit more fragile then frost for it to work high rated since frost has better CC and survivability and cooldowns to re-use ( nerf cold snap counterspellx2 ) but it can definately work out when well-played.

Get a clue. Cold Snap doesnt affect counterspell CD, so i guess either your on a pretty bad battlegroup or you dont play at 2050 :gtfo2:

im Pom pyro with low rating teams, and if it hits with a decent crit they die REALLY fast! i love it! i love nuking people that have crap gear and they die in 1 hit, or just add in an instant fire blast and BAMM we win. :P

PS- i use Pom pryo aggressively. i go in guns blazing so they are intimidated. works well at low ratings when ur playing for fun with friends.
