Hello, here is a guide for you rogue locks, I have written some by myself, but it's a nice compilation of stuff I've found out with google and by arenaing myself with a lock mate.
The general tactics
-Vanish>sap is absolutely critical.
-You will be (hopefully) sapping one target and getting on the other immediately, hopefully forcing a defensive trinket and then chain fearing the cc target.
-After the fears are over, you must blind and get back to nuking one down, then vanish>sap the other target.
-Your lock should start out mounted while you get on something asap.
-VS healer/dps teams, you can stay back and get into good positioning with no rush.
-However, against 2dps, its absolutely imperative for both of you to rush them down.
-Against rogue/mage,spriest, or lock, it all relies on who gets a sap off or gets to the lock/mage/spriest first.
Talent Specs:
Rogue should be ShS, mutilate might work but I think it's easier to go with
20/0/41. The lock shall be SL/SL
Poisons:
Wound main hand, crippling off hand because its so important to keep something slowed down. Keep an extra off hand to shiv on mind numbing when needed.
Gear:
Rogues should gem full dps. I like 16 ap better than 8 agi, even though the agi scales better with sinister calling. It just ends up being more dps and anyways, the dodge and armor are negligible because im NEVER focused. For orange, take 4ap/8crit. With the dragonhide bracers, those are the only gems you will need. Meta is truly just personal preference, although you should NOT use stam/stun resist.
Locks should stack stamina gems, since their game is (mainly) staying alive and fearing. Just 12 stamina works like a charm. Stam/stun resist meta is incredibly important for the barrage of rogues you will be facing. Also, its absolutely necessary for the lock to have the battlemasters trinket to stay alive. The combination of healthstone + battlemasters is what lets this combo dominate other rogue/dps teams.
THE STRATS:
Druid/Warrior:
Try to find the druid, if you can, get him in a cs>ks. Its VERY important to kidney shot him while he ISNT in bear form. If hes very low already, vanish>cs and try to deny an NS. Just nuke the druid down and blind the warrior. Note: if you can sap the warrior and get on the druid almost immediately after, thus forcing a trinket on the warrior, blind the warrior and its GG (assuming you catch him in Battle Stance).
Druid/Hunter:
Two things can work here and they depend entirely on the hunter's spec. If hes BM, try to find the druid and do the same as in Druid/Warrior.
If you cant find the druid, get on the hunter and just dps until the druid comes out, then shadowstep to the druid and kill him. Try to blind/fear the hunter after BW is over. If the hunter is marks, you can get on him and CC the druid or use the same strat as when the hunter is BM. This fight relies 100% on how good the druid is at kiting you...and it shows why mutilate isnt viable for this combo.
Disc Priest/Hunter:
Same options as hunter druid and it depends heavily on if you're undead or not. Hunter is BM, get on priest. Hunter is marks, getting on priest or hunter are both viable options. Whoever you arent focusing needs to be sapped through the flare using shadowstep.
Disc Priest/Rogue:
Very tough to beat but your chances are much higher if you're undead. If the rogue is in t6 (very commonly seen at 2k+) get on him. If hes in pvp gear, try to kill the priest. Your lock must trinket the kidney shot and chain fear the rogue. Mind numbing poison is very useful here, so keep an extra weapon to shiv when needed.
Druid/Lock:
Kill the druid. If you can't find him early on, get on the lock and nuke him hard to force the druid to pop early without taking much damage from the lock. Same strat for killing druid as in warrior/druid: make sure you get the KS on the druid while hes in caster form and try to deny the NS by vanish>CSing him if hes very low.
Mage/Rogue:
This fight needs to be played very agressively. Try to get a sap off on the rogue if you're human, but normally if you try find and sap him, its counterproductive because the rogue might just get on your lock before you get on the mage--a loss for you. If you aren't human, just get on the mage immediately with a garrote and take him down. Your lock should chain fear the rogue if possible, hopefully forcing a trinket and opening a gap for blind>vanish>sap. When the mage ice blocks, restealth and shadowstep to wherever he blinks after to once again garrote him. The idea situation is one which you dont have to waste prep to kill the mage, making it easier to 1v1 with the rogue, which will often happen.
Shadow Priest/Rogue:
Incredibly easy fight assuming equal gear. Even easier as undead, but I'm a troll and hey...its still easy as hell. Just sprint to the shadow priest and nuke him down. If your lock is halfway decent, he will last longer than the shadow priest. Then just vanish>shs to rogue and finish him off. Also, theres 0 reason to risk getting sapped by trying to sap the other rogue, its just not necessary. GG
Disc Priest/Warrior:
Split dps. Try catch the warrior early for you to get on the priest and allow your lock to dot him up, then let your lock kill the warrior while you wear down the priest. Should be won 100% of the time.
Rogue/Lock:
For your mirror match, get on the lock. Just get on their lock before they get on yours and assuming equal gear, that should make it. Undead have a huge advantage here. If you are human, go for the sap on the other rogue, it'll make it GG.
Retribution Paladin/Mage:
Split dps. Sap the pally, letting your lock freely dot the mage while you get on him aswell. When sap is over, have your lock switch the the pally and kite him around while maintaining dots on the mage. Once the mage is down, switch to pally and finish him off.
Warrior/Paladin:
Have your lock keep tounges on the paladin. He should dot the warrior fully as well while you lock him down. The lock should use fear to force bubble/trinket on the pally so you can then vanish>sap. Depending on the situation, at this point you can switch to the pally or stay hard on the warrior.
You should go 50-50 against this team. T6 pallys will screw you over however; the only way around them is to switch to them quick after the bubble.
Lock/Paladin:
Sap the pally and kill the pet, if he trinkets, blind him. If he bubbles out of that, switch to him and take him down while fearing the lock. If he doesnt trinket sap or blind, kill the pet and then kill the lock.
Keep tounges and felhunter on the pally and the lock should go down. Keep 5 stacks of wound hard on the lock and he should go down.
Shaman/Warrior:
A decent shaman will go ghost wolf--but if he doesnt, sap him. Kill the warrior, keep him crippled and the lock should stay as far away from him as possible. Dotting him and pillar humping is very useful for your lock. Fear and blind the lock then vanish>sap. Its a pretty tough team to beat if the warrior keeps your lock hamstring while pounding on him with windfury.
Hope this helps, bye![]()
