In this guide im going to share all what i learned while leveling and playing my prot paladin (lvl 70, t4/t5 geared atm) to make you like this build.
(sry for my bad english btw)
1.The basics
WTF is prot paladin!?
-Protection tree is (as the name states) used as a tanking spec, it have few advantages over druids / warrior tanks, aswell as some disadvantages, ill post about them later.
Leveling a prot paladin:
-While at low lvl's (1-34) its better to level as retri, due to lack of talents, then its EXTREMELY easy and fast to level in prot spec. The choose of talents points depends on you tbh, but the most important talents in leveling build are:
-Blessing of Sanctuary - reduces dmg taken from attacks + deal reflective dmg to attackers
-Reckoning - while this is not needed in endgame tanking, its VERY useful while leveling, if u have few mobs beating on you its up almost all the time, making seals proc pretty often
-Redoubt - +30% block is always welcome!
So... you got lvl 30+ and you wonder what to do?
Spec prot, get urself a decent gear, with high stamina and some int(not that needed)... and...start playing!
Buffs you're going to use for aoe leveling:
-Retribution Aura - reflective dmg to the attackers
-Blessing of Sanctuary - as stated above, reduces dmg + deals some dmg on block
-Seal of Light / Seal of Wisdom - do the sealdance and change between them when ur low on hp / mana
-Judgement of Light / Judgment of Wisdom - same as above, judge it, then put the seal on
At lvl 40 + u will get holy shield, when u have it, keep it up often, +30% block and deals LOTS of dmg, lasts for 8 blocks or few secs.
How to keel!?
Buff urself with the buffs mentioned earlier, pull some mobs (about 5-7 is SAFE AMOUNT, when u learned how to do this - no casters, if there are ranged try to do LoS (line of sight) pull to get them close to you). Start with using consecration, max rank, then judge Light on the mob ur beating, and use SoL, that will allow you to regain some hp while getting them down^^ if u have quite a lot hp, but running oom, judge Wisdom, and put SoW up, then do the rotation, depends what u need, health or mana, when the mobs are dead - loot, repeat.
That grinding works best while mixed with quests where u need to kill these mobs, STV hunting quests are perfect example of that!
Where to lvl up?
Dont really remember all the spots ,but will do my best to write what i remember:
At lvl 32-35 , u can grind on worgens near to darkshire
35-40 - murlocs in northern dustwallow marsh
40-44 - murlocs in very east in Swamps of Sorrows
44-51 - pirates in tanaris (BE CAREFUL WITH RANGED THERE!)
51-58 - undeads in WPL
58-62 - vultures in hellfire peninsula / undead mobs in abandoned armory (WATCH FOR CASTERS)
From 58 to like 68 its better to spec retri and level on quests, really lot of casters in outlands, making prot grining a bit less wanted then questing. At 68, i went prot and leveled in instances, as tank - gained some starting gear for 70, and tanking experience.
2. Tanking as protection paladin - lvl 70.
The point, that lots of ppl are missing is...PROTECTION PALADINS GET THREAT THROUGH SPELLDMG!for me its obvious, but i really experienced some ppl that was shocked when they saw me using S2 casters mace.
Buffs for tanking in lvl 70 instances / raids etc.
-Righteous Fury - A MUST HAVE! adds 60% (90 with talents ) more threat from holy spells, and reduces all dmg taken by 6%
-Blessing of Sanctuary - at 70 it reduces dmg done to you by 80 and deals some dmg on block = more threat
-Retrib / Devotion aura - more threat or dmg reduction, depends on ur spelldmg / armor
-you're most likely going to judge crusader on a boss, then use Seal of Righteouss and judge it whenever its up, judgement of righteouss is giving amount of threat compared to warrior's heroic strike.
-dont care about mana that much, when u're healed, u get 10% mana of the ammount healed, so that should be ok.
-have holy shield up ALL the time, when ur not passively uncrushable (if u have lower then 102,4 % combined avoidance ub = block + dodge + parry)
-when u have lots of spelldmg, use rank 1 consecration, as it gets a lot of benefits from ur spelldmg bonusses
Spell rotation on bosses:
-Use avenging wrath (hey!its +30% dmg more = more threat!) and use your lazor shield when pulling the mob, it gives A LOT of threat at beggining, especiall with AV active,
-Judge Seal of Crusader, use consecration ( u may want to use max rank at begginng)
-Use Seal of Righteoussnes and judge it whenever its up
-Use lower rank of consecration
-If you will lose aggro of mob, just use ur taunt, and lazor shield to get aggro back on you.
3. AoE tanking / farming at 70
Here's smth really fun, paladin got a HUGE advantage over all other classes... the AoE dmg and threat making. Im used to farming top of black temple - initates and supplicants for gold, can pull like 30-40 of them at a time, without bubble/loh, just using seals and Figurine of Colossus(trinket that heals u on block, from SHatt halls last boss).
Also AoE tanking is pretty much needed in MH on trash waves, and ZA dragonhawk bosses, its also pretty useful in some parts of SSC.
4.Gearing the prot pala at 70
Ok, so u want to tank heroics and kara? There r few goals u need to achieve.
a)12k hp unbuffed, the more= the better
b)490 def = u will be crit immune
c)around 200spelldmg = get Continuum Blade from CoT rep and put 40spelldmg on it, or S2 mace , with 40 spelldmg on it, pretty easy, and remember , the more = the easier to gain threat
d) 13k armor, again, the more = the better
e)102,4% total avoidance with holy shield active = its pretty hard to get at beggining, so you can do heroics, and even some parts of kara, or whole as offtank without it.
How to get gear?

5. Advantages and Disadvantages over other classesa
Advantages:
+easy and fast threat generation vs multiple mobs
+doing pretty nice dmg overall while tanking
+can cure diseases and magic effects on himself
+ can heal himself and regain some mana with SoL / SoW
Disadvantages:
-harder to get uncrushability then warriors
-pretty hard to get pally-specific tanking items due to poor itemization
-slower threat gaining on bosses then warriors
I hope this guide will help ANYONE. Feel free to flame btw, atleast its not copypasted as like 5 guides posted here today.
